What to Know
After fans watched Christina Haack and Tarek El Moussa‘s kids grow up on HGTV, it’s hard to believe that their oldest child, daughter Taylor, is turning 16 next month. And ahead of her birthday, her parents surprised her with a very impressive gift: A brand new (and very expensive) car. A car that costs so much that it would be financially out of reach for most adults, let alone brand new teenage drivers.
Christina and Tarek surprised Taylor with a new car.
The former couple joined up with Tarek’s current wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, to pull off the surprise, and Taylor certainly seemed thrilled with her car. Who wouldn’t be?!
In a video shared on Instagram, Tarek was taking Taylor for a driving lesson around a parking lot in his car when Heather and Christina pulled up in a BMW X5 M with a giant pink bow on it.
Just in case you don’t know cars, BMW X5 Ms start at around $130,000 for the new 2026 model and the price goes up from there depending on what bells and whistles are included.
No word on whether or not the birthday girl has any idea how much it costs, but it’s not like her parents can’t afford it. To her credit, though, she was really excited and seemed grateful.
“What’s more of a surprise… the car for Taylor or the fact that the three of us actually pulled this off?” Heather wrote in the caption of her video. “The car is so well deserved, we love you so much Tay.”
Some people didn’t feel that the car was an appropriate gift.
Of course, this is a much fancier car than most teenagers drive (and again, most adults), and plenty of people seemed to feel some type of way about that.
“How does any child deserve a bmw for their first car lol,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “Everything is given to these kids, they won’t know how to work for things they want. As long as it’s given to them, they won’t work for anything.”
It makes sense that some people didn’t believe it was the right choice for a soon-to-be 16-year-old. Not only can some kids not appreciate the value of an expensive car at a young age, but it’s also likely that their first car is going to get banged up at least a little. Who among us hasn’t hit a curb or two as a teen driver?
(Or even as an adult driver. No judgment here!)
Others thought it was really nice of her parents to do for her.
If they had the means to do this for Taylor, why not? Plenty of people also acknowledged how far Christina and Tarek have come in their coparenting to come together and do this for their daughter and include Heather in it, which is far more important than any car could be.
“I love how everyone is so happy,” one of Heather’s followers wrote. “We need more of this kind of coparenting for all our blended families.”
Amen!
