What to Know
Heather Rae El Moussa and her husband, Tarek, are dealing with a stressful situation when they thought they were about to have a relaxing vacation. On Tuesday, Heather made a cryptic post about something happening at her home that made her and Tarek both feel “violated” just as reports surfaced that claimed their Newport Beach home was broken into while they were away.
Heather shared a post on her Instagram Stories about feeling “disgusted” by something that happened to her family.
According to People, Heather took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday to share that something upsetting had happened.
“Disgusted by some of the cruel heartless people in this world,” she wrote in white text on a blank black background. “Tarek and I feel violated and to be honest really sad. Taking a break for a few days and will [be] back to explain soon. We are safe & the kids are safe.”
At the time, she didn’t share any details, but a source told People that “the issue was at their house while they were away on vacation.”
Their home was broken into while they were away.
On Wednesday, TMZ reported that Newport Beach police responded to a break in at Tarek and Heather’s home late on Monday afternoon while they were in Los Cabos on vacation. A source told the outlet that “several high value items” were stolen from their home, though no specifics have been made public at this time.
Another update came on Thursday, when police confirmed to People that sometime between Saturday and Monday, “unknown suspects accessed the backyard of the property and shattered a rear sliding glass door to get into the house.” They also “ransacked the primary bedroom closet before fleeing through the backyard, along the side of the house and out the front yard,” making off with some jewelry in the process.
An investigation into the burglary is ongoing, but obviously, Heather and Tarek are feeling pretty unsettled by this, as anyone would.
Not everyone is feeling sympathy for them, though.
The couple has been sharing photos and videos of their vacation while they’ve been gone, so it seems that anyone following them on social media would have known when the house would be empty — something that multiple people have brought up in the comments of Heather’s most recent vacation post on Instagram.
“Stop posting your vacations on social media real-time!!” one commenter wrote. “Burglars watch your feed to see when you will not be home.”
It’s never a bad idea to post your vacation photos after you get home, just for the sake of safety, no matter who you are. Still, no one deserves to have their safe space intruded on like this!
