If you’re still trying to wrap your head around the news that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are actually moving back to the UK, you’re not the only one — apparently, Prince William is struggling with it, too.
A royal insider claims that William was “blindsided” by the announcement of his brother’s return, and that kind of reaction alone speaks volumes about what might be going on behind the scenes in the royal family.
One royal insider claims that Harry and Meghan’s intentions must not be pure with this move.
In a new post from gossip columnist Rob Schuter, he reported that a source close to the royals said that the fact that Harry and Meghan used People magazine to announce their move back to the UK, instead of letting the palace handle the move, is likely to be pretty offensive to William and the family.
“If this were really about rebuilding trust with the royal family, the palace would have been given the respect of making the announcement,” the insider said. “Instead, Harry and Meghan made the announcement themselves in America.”
King Charles found out about the move on Sunday, and Rob reported that Will and Kate are “blindsided” by the whole thing, so if Meghan and Harry are hoping that proximity will help mend their family relationships, they might want to think again.
“They are still loose cannons. Nobody knows what they are going to do next, and nobody at the palace wants to find out through the American media,” the source added.
Another source claimed Harry and Meghan are simply running out of options.
They’ve been to America, they’ve seen what they can do, and now, they’re ready to head back because the well is dry, according to another source.
“The American dream did not turn out the way they planned,” they said. “The deals came, the headlines came, but the enormous financial independence they talked about never really materialized.”
A different insider seemed to confirm this intel, adding, “This is about money. Harry knows the family fortune is in Britain. He also knows his father is the person who can make life much easier for him.”
To be totally fair to Meghan and Harry, they were pretty successful in the US, between the launch of Meghan’s As Ever brand and multiple Netflix projects. But surely, they must think life will be better in the UK, or why would they come back?
People are convinced that this is all about control for William and the palace.
On Reddit, royal watchers seem to be taking Harry’s side on this one, with many claiming that Harry and Meghan announcing the news without allowing the royals to take part would really have messed with how much William loves to call the shots.
“The issue is that the Palace wanted to control the announcement so they could spin it as negatively as they wanted against the Sussexes,” one person wrote.
Another person added, “So private citizens make an announcement about their lives, but Willy seems to think he’s the one who’s supposed to spread the news?!? Yeah, he’s just mad he couldn’t release the hounds with a leak as usual.”
Meghan and Harry aren’t working royals, and it doesn’t sound like their status will change once they make it into the UK. So really, did the owe the palace a heads up?
