There’s enough flack to go around for moms who choose to have multiple baby showers when they have more kids. But what about grandmas having grandma showers? Yeah, apparently that’s a thing. At least, for some grandmas-to-be. One such new grandma texted her daughter-in-law in screenshots shared on TikTok to detail what she needs for her own shower for when her son’s baby arrives.
Whether you believe the screenshots or not, the mother-in-law seems like someone who would be totally fun to deal with and not at all stressful, especially at a time in the new mom’s life when she needs zero outside stress. In the texts, the new grandma expresses excitement at the baby’s arrival, but not without also sharing her needs. Oh, and the needs of her adult son.
The grandma asked for a nursery for her house for when the baby arrives.
The mom-to-be in this scenario posted the screenshots, which began with a text featuring a ‘Queenie to Bee’ baby shower invite for the grandma-to-be. The grandma, Susan, texted mom Elsie explaining that the shower is so her friends can celebrate the “milestone” for her in becoming a grandma. Oh, and to make it so she can set up a nursery at her home. That’s a whole other issue in itself. When Elsie asked why Susan would need a whole nursery at her home, Susan had a response ready. Of course she did.
“This is my very first grandbaby and is a very big deal for me,” Susan texted. “I deserve to be celebrated. And the nursery is for the first few weeks after the baby comes. He can come bond with me while you rest up and take care of Matthew during his paternity leave.”
That’s where the text exchange about the grandma shower ends, but um, what? Why would the dad-to-be been to be “taken care of”? And why would the newborn spend the first few weeks of his life with anyone but his parents? Those are the questions that other TikTok users immediately had after Elsie shared the screenshots in her post.
People think the mom needs to go “no contact” with her mother-in-law.
Some users went as far as to tell Elsie to go no-contact with Susan after the text exchange. Sure, that may be a little drastic. However, if it is any indication of the lack of boundaries to come, it might be necessary for Elsie and her family.
“Please tell me that you both set some hard boundaries with her,” a user commented. “This behavior deserves to result in no contact.”
Someone with a little experience in this area added, “As a daughter-in-law to a toxic monster-in -law…SET THOSE BOUNDARIES LIKE YESTERDAY. They don’t give a single f–k about us lol.”
“Immediate no contact after that,” another person wrote in the comments. “Especially the rest up and take care of HIM during his paternity leave…like HE just pushed out a human.”

After people commented asking for more details about Susan, the grandma-to-be, Elsie shared another TikTok with screenshots from another text message thread with her. According to this post, Susan once threw a fit regarding a condo rental for what appeared to be a family trip. So for her to make insinuations and even demands for her future grandchild, it really seems par for the course with this one.
Someone commented on that video with, “I am fully committed to the Susan lore rabbit hole now. Please never stop.”
