What to Know
When it comes to her marriage, Kelly Ripa has always been an open book — even if we’re talking about the tough stuff that many other people would avoid speaking about with just a good friend, let alone an entire studio audience.
On an episode of Live With Kelly & Mark, Kelly and husband Mark Consuelos started taking about couples who choose to keep their bank accounts separate, and it let to Kelly making a surprising confession. Then again, doesn’t she always?
On the show, Kelly and Mark talked about ‘financial infidelity.’
On the show, Kelly and Mark spoke about how it’s becoming more and more common for couples to keep two separate bank accounts, rather than merging their money when they get married. These days, it’s happening a lot more; in February, Yahoo! Finance reported that fewer than 2 in 5 American couples completely combine their finances.
Mark shared that one of the problems that could come from this is “financial infidelity,” or “when one partner is not forthcoming about where the money is going.”
When Kelly joked that she’s “never forthcoming” about where their money is going, Mark replied, “Right. I just assume it’s going.”
Kelly said she always has a “story” ready to go in case Mark starts asking questions.
“I always make up a story [about where the money is going] that I think you will find palatable,” Kelly told her husband. “I know you assume that it’s going, but I always fudge where it’s going and how it’s going. You know, you don’t need to know.”
Mark, as chill as ever, simply reassured her that he won’t be asking any questions and doesn’t need any of her stories… while Kelly repeated that just in case, she does always have a story ready.
“In case you ever asked a question, I have a full story totally prepared,” Kelly said. “So, you won’t even know it’s a story. It’s gonna fly off my tongue seamlessly. Go ahead, ask me something.”
Those two are pretty safe on their budget, though.
It’s probably safe to assume that Mark isn’t concerned about where the money is going because his wife is pretty good at making it — in fact, she pulls in a reported $22 million per year for her work on Live, and while there’s a good chance Mark makes a lot less as cohost, he’s probably still pulling in a pretty impressive amount of money every year, all things considered.
And as a couple, Kelly and Mark are worth an estimated $160 million… so Kelly really can probably keep all those stories about where the money is going to herself. Does Mark even notice when the money leaves their account?
