What to Know
Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back in the UK, could there be a major family reconciliation? Maybe, but not in the way most people think. Because, as Charles Spencer, brother to the late Princess Diana, speaks out against King Charles III, Meghan might have her eyes set on that side of the family to rekindle some relationships.
Charles’s newest memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, clearly has the word “swan” in it. And after excerpts from the book went viral, including digs at King Charles, Meghan posted about an As Ever product and seemed to reference Charles and the memoir in the caption on Instagram. Those who follow the British Royal Family are convinced that there is a connection and that Meghan has made her allegiance known.
Meghan Markle might have thrown an olive branch to one of King Charles III’s adversaries.
A post on Meghan’s As Ever Instagram account features a swan in the caption. The post itself has nothing to do with swans, birds, or anything in between, which is one big reason why some believe this means she was secretly giving a shoutout to Charles and showing her support for him over King Charles.
“All your pantry favorites, bundled together,” the post says, with a swan emoji. “Made for stocking up, sharing, and savoring at home.” The photo itself features shelves with As Ever products like honey and fruit spread. But a swan? Nope, not one in sight.
According to CNN, in Charles’s memoir about Diana, he accuses King Charles of telling him over a phone call about Harry and Prince William walking behind their mother’s coffin during her funeral, “Rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough!” Since Meghan and King Charles likely do not have much of a relationship, some believe she has taken the Spencer side in all of this. But, of course, that is just speculation at this time.
Some think this is a way for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to stay relevant.

In a Reddit thread about the Swan Song memoir and As Ever swan emoji-gate, users speculated on what it means for Harry, William, and their families. One person suggested that, since William supports his father, Meghan and Harry look better by potentially standing behind Charles, a Spencer, and a member of Diana’s family.
“They have nothing left but the ‘Diana was treated badly by the Monarchy, Charles specifically’ narrative,” someone wrote. “And by William supporting his father they are making him look like he’s a bad guy.”
Someone more maliciously wrote, of Meghan, “Everything the idiot private citizen does is intentional. And it shows that she’s jumping on the Charles Spencer bandwagon and she’s attempting to be relevant.”
Others called Meghan “petty” for the post on her As Ever page. But to be fair, the swan of it all could just be one huge coincidence. Maybe. Probably.
Charles Spencer told Prince Harry about his book.
Whether or not there really is a war brewing between Charles and King Charles, according to Charles, he did tell his nephews about the memoir. Charles told People that he told his two sisters at the same time that he told William and Harry.
“All four of them, I told them exactly the same time,” he said. “And I can say that Harry is completely fine about it.” He hinted that “one was” potentially not as thrilled about the book, but he didn’t elaborate on who that “one” person might have been.
