Usually, a holiday greeting on social media from the royal family is pretty benign, but this year’s post from Kate Middleton and Prince William has turned out to be quite controversial.
On Saturday, Kate shared a throwback photo of her youngest child, Prince Louis, that under different circumstances, people would have thought was super adorable. But this time, royal watchers are incredibly unimpressed and are even calling Kate “lazy” for her post.

The photo shows a tiny Prince Louis leaning over to pick up a pumpkin that’s almost as big as he is. He really was such an adorable toddler. Look at those cheeks!

It’s such a cute photo, but instead of focusing on how precious baby Louis is, people are starting a completely different conversation.
People can’t believe that the royals consider posting an old photo ‘work.’
On Reddit, people are pretty fed up with Kate using an old photo as new content.
“This family counts this post as ‘work’ and I’m not buying it for an instant. All I see is a billionaire’s wife — or her staff — posting an old baby picture while they’re on yet another vacation,” one person wrote.
Another commenter said, “Yeah, and given Kate’s resume, walking beside [Meghan Markle and Prince Harry] is probably the hardest thing she ever did in her life. Homegirl is lazy as hell.”
To be fair, she is a working mom of three. But when it comes to making public facing appearances, Kate has mostly been skipping out on engagements with Will attending them alone.
Kate isn’t even close to the hardest working royal.
According to Hello!, King Charles was actually the hardest working royal in 2025 after taking on 532 engagements as king, taking the title from his youngest sister, Princess Anne.
Will and Kate were much farther down the line, with William making 202 engagements over the course of the year. His wife was ranked tenth, having made 68 engagements herself.
The reaction to the post about Louis might be a sign that people are really expecting Kate to be more visible these days. It seems like she’s definitely trying to take it easier after undergoing cancer treatment in 2024, so maybe doing far fewer engagements than one might expect is a sign that she’s following the boundaries she set for herself.
Still, we couldn’t get a new photo of the kids for Halloween? It would have been cool to see their costumes — or even for Will and Kate to share how they spent the holiday.
