Well this wasn't something we were expecting to hear from Catelynn Baltierra. The Teen Mom OG star just welcomed her third child with husband Tyler Baltierra earlier this year, and it seems as if they couldn't be happier. So it was unsettling to hear on Monday night's episode of Teen Mom OG that she briefly considered terminating the pregnancy.
Tyler and Cate brought baby Vaeda home in February, but apparently it almost didn't happen.
Monday's episode of the show was filmed shortly after Vaeda was born, and Ty and Cate brought her home with big sister Nova, 4. They're also parents to Carly, 10, whom they placed for adoption when she was born.
The parents had been struggling for alone time since their newest daughter was born, and they finally got a chance to sneak off together for facials, massages, and a romantic dinner. And Cate finally got a chance to clear her mind about something that had been bothering her — how the stress of her pregnancy might affect Vaeda in the long run.
Specifically, she opened up about contemplating an abortion.
Tyler and Catelynn separated during her pregnancy, not to get divorced, but just to get some needed space after a tough year that included a brutal miscarriage and three months of in-patient therapy for Cate for mental health issues. But things were so stressful, she worried how it would affect Vaeda's development.
She confessed to MTV producer Kerthy Fix, "I feel guilty for even contemplating aborting Vaeda. Is she gonna remember that? They say that when you're pregnant, things that you go through in life, things that you say and stuff that they feel and they hear … we were going through so much in our relationship and stuff, and I was just like, 'Is it smart to bring a child into this world if me and him aren't gonna be together?'"
When she brought it up to Ty, he admitted that the idea really "freaked him out."
Tyler had been against the idea of an abortion, and he persuaded Cate to stop thinking of it as an option, but it was clearly still weighing on her, so she brought it up on their date. He said it "really freaked him out" when she brought up abortion while she was pregnant.
He reassured her, "I knew in my heart, I knew in my spirit, I knew in my soul — I knew that we would be together, and we're gonna parent this baby. Whatever happened in the womb, honey, your love and your life and giving it to her is going to outweigh anything that happened when she was brewing inside of you."
We're so glad that Cate decided to keep baby Vaeda.
We've loved watching Nova practice her big sister skills, and Vaeda is seriously adorable. And ever since she was born, Ty and Cate have been singing each other's praises on social media, and it's obvious that they're more in love than ever.
