Missing Pregnant Teen Sent Chilling Text About Boyfriend Before Her Body Was Found in His Yard

Less than two weeks after her family reported her missing, the remains of Kylee Monteiro were found in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. The 18-year-old, who had recently graduated from high school, was 11 weeks pregnant at the time she went missing, according to her family. Before her disappearance, she told family and friends that she was having problems with her boyfriend. Then, she was found on his family’s property. And he allegedly admitted to killing her, but not before she sent one last warning text.

The last time friends and family heard from Kylee Monteiro was August 7, 2025, multiple outlets reported. She sent texts to both her sister Faith, and a friend. “She was like ‘I don’t feel safe right now something’s not right.’ I tried talking with her after that, and she just stopped responding to me after that,” the friend told WCVB.

On August 19, the teen’s remains were found buried on the property of her 22-year-old boyfriend, Gregory Groom, WCVB reported. Groom was allegedly the first one to report the girl missing. Now, he is being charged with her murder. Groom appeared in court on August 20, and details about the last few hours of Monteiro’s life and her killing.

The prosecution revealed that Groom admitted to police that he and Monteiro got into an argument on August 6. He pushed her, causing her to hit her head and fall. Additionally, he admitted to knocking her phone out of her hand.

“He threw me on the ground, and pulled my hair and strangled me,” Kylee Monteiro said in a text to her sister, investigators found. “My phones at 4 percent if I die, it was Greg.”

During questioning, police told Groom they had applied for and obtained a search warrant. They were preparing to bring cadaver dogs and an excavator to his property, NBC Boston reported. He then drew investigators a rudimentary map of the property, showing the shed where he and Monteiro had gotten into the argument.

As they argued, Groom said he stabbed her twice in the neck and once in the chest. The blade of the knife broke off in her chest, killing her. He then dug a hole 20 yards from where the argument took place. Through the night, he dragged her body, burying it five feet underground.

When investigators arrived, they found brush and blood and other physical evidence near the shed. About 20 yards away, they found “human remains consistent with those of Kylee Monteiro,” according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn. An autopsy was expected to be performed on August 20. No results have been released.

Gregory Groom has been charged with murder, assault and battery on a pregnant victim, aggravated intimidation of a witness, juror, police or court official and assault and battery on a family or household member. Despite admitting to killing Klee Monteiro, Groom pleaded not guilty. He is currently being held in jail without bond. The investigation is ongoing.

“I met with the family. Certainly, it is a very difficult time for them,” Quinn said in a statement to 10 WJAR. “I extend my sympathies to them and ask them to be patient with the process despite the trauma they are experiencing.”

In the meanwhile, the Monteiro family started a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs. “This is closure and we are so thankful for everyone’s help in getting here,” the family wrote. “Obviously there will be court proceedings but we are taking this one step at a time.” A vigil is planned for August 23. “
