Alec and Hilaria Baldwin’s daughter is publishing her first book at age 11, but many fans feel that the topic is not age-appropriate. On December 6, Hilaria Baldwin shared the news on Instagram. The new book, titled Glowing Up: Recipes to Rock Your Natural Beauty, features an image of Hilaria and her 11-year-old daughter Carmen on the cover. Carmen is obsessed with skin care, her mom explained in the post. But many people were concerned that Alec and Hilaria’s daughter seems to be growing up too fast.

Hilaria Baldwin said Carmen likes to make her own skin care products.
“If your child is like ours, skincare is an obsession. Walking that line of letting them explore and have fun, but also being conscious of what they are putting on their skin is a hard one!” Hilaria wrote in an Instagram post. To “strike a balance,” the Baldwins have let Carmen embrace her hobby and make her own skin care products at home.
“Part of it has been Carmen led by watching her make her own skincare products, from our kitchen, researching, learning about beneficial ingredients, creating and having fun!” Hilaria wrote.
Do 11-year-olds really need a 'glow up?'
Hilaria described her daughter’s book as “a guide to embracing self-care, building confidence, and celebrating natural beauty.” But people were skeptical.
“Natural beauty?” one person commented on the post. “Of course, she’s 11. Let her be that age. This is absurd. I was still playing with Barbie dolls at 11.”
Kids shouldn’t need a beauty or skin care routine, many others pointed out.
One person wrote: “Aside from regular bathing, why do children need any kind of beauty care? Children are so pure and natural on their own — this is so unnecessary. All this does is teach children that their natural appearance needs fixing.”

People were worried about Alec and Hilaria's daughter growing up too fast.
Alec and Hilaria share seven children. Given that Carmen has six younger siblings, she might feel pressured to grow up too fast. Many saw the publication of her skin care book as a sign that her parents seem to be pushing her “into an adult world.”
One person commented: “11 yo. Makeup, skin routine, multiple piercings. Next year we will meet the official boyfriend moving in.”
“She is an 11 year old child not an 18 year old young lady,” another wrote. “You’ve given permission for 2 or 3 earrings, long acrylic nails with excessive styling and mascara and makeup. Geezus please stop.”
Some fans thought that it's good to let children explore their hobbies — but within reason.
“We are so proud of you Carmen, and so excited to share this project with you all!” Hilaria wrote on Instagram. Some people thought it was great that the Baldwins let their children pursue their interests. However, publishing a skin care book seemed to take it too far.
“She’s a beautiful young lady,” one person commented. “Glad she’s experimenting, all good stuff. But exactly what knowledge does she have to write a book at her age?”
Carmen is surely not the only tween who has taken an interest in skin care — especially because of social media exposure. However, the Baldwins could’ve had a conversation with their daughter instead of encouraging her to write a book about her skin care tips, some fans pointed out.
“When kids get influenced by social media it is up to the parents to find a way to talk things over,” one person wrote.
Hilaria spoke about the book during an interview.
Speaking to People, Hilaria said her daughter Carmen has made her own skin care products “for years” despite being 11 years old. She also pointed out that although she collaborated with Carmen to create the book, “it is her work and I am just helping her see the potential and possibilities.”
“One of my goals as a mother is to really foster my children’s creativity and individuality and see where their passions and skills collide,” Hilaria said.
