When Cameron Diaz left Hollywood behind, she also left behind all her cares about what society thinks about how she looks. In fact, the former actress says she's moved so far beyond her old life of having to look her best at all times that she rarely even bothers to wash her face anymore.
In a new interview, Cameron opened up about how she's felt objectified in the past.
She made the surprising revelation while appearing on Michelle Visage's new Rule Breakers podcast. According to Cameron, quitting acting after marrying her husband, Benji Madden, freed her from the "trap" of Hollywood allure.
"I am absolutely a victim of all of the societal objectifications and exploitations that women are subjected to," she explained, admitting that she has bought into them several times over the course of her life.
The 49-year-old said her beauty products are basically gathering dust on her shelves now.
It seems that as part of her break from Hollywood, Cameron has also broken free from the pressures of holding herself to certain beauty standards and ideals.
"It's hard not to. It's hard not to look at yourself and judge yourself against other markers of beauty, and I think that that's one of the biggest things. The last eight years, girl — I'm like wild. I'm like a wild animal. I'm a beast," she joked of her current beauty routines. (Spoiler alert: She has none!)
The mom of one has opted out of even the most basic skin care.
Cameron said her newfound freedom from caring about her appearance means she has given up on rigorous beauty routines in favor of going all natural. In fact, the former actress goes so natural that she rarely even washes her face.
"I don't care. Literally the last thing I think about on a daily basis, like maybe not at all during the day, is what I look like," she told Michelle. "No, no, I literally do nothing. I never wash my face."
And it's not like Cameron doesn't have access to the good stuff — she confessed that she has about "a billion products" quietly expiring on her shelves.
Cameron does sometimes fall back into old habits, though.
Although she may largely avoid any sort of beauty regimen, Cameron said that occasionally she still applies some of her lotions and potions.
"Twice a month if I'm lucky, I'll be like, 'Oh, I better put this on. One time works, right? Like, is that all I have to do?' I'm just not in that place right now like where I put any energy," she explained.
Now that she spends less time and energy on how she looks, Cameron can focus on what really matters.
These days, she gives her attention to the things that are most important to her. One of those priorities is her young daughter, Raddix, who was born in January 2020.
We love the fact that Cameron has freed herself from the aspects she didn't like about her old life and found a way to build something new (she's co-owner of an organic winery) that makes her happy. And it clearly shows — even without a Hollywood-style makeup routine, Cameron is still glowing. More power to her!
