If you ever need boss mom inspiration, look no further than these celebrities who are crushing it as parents and at work. These women not only help raise their kids, but they’re often acting and performing while running one (or more) successful business ventures. And while it’s true that starting a company as a celebrity is likely easier because they already have that wealth and name recognition, these ladies still deserve so much credit for taking their companies to where they are today.
From fashion and makeup lines, to baby food and skin care brands, to production companies and record labels, these famous women have all sorts of successful side hustles happening. We may know them best from TV, movies, or music, but now they’re making a name for themselves as titans of industry, too.
In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, here are the celeb boss moms who are killing it in the business world while also being amazing moms who inspire us so much.
Jessica Alba
When she’s not acting, Jessica Alba is busy running the Honest Company, which sells natural beauty items, baby items, and more. She founded the company in 2011 after having children, realizing that she wanted chemical-free, natural options for the everyday items she used. Her business went public a few years ago, and was valued at an impressive $2.1 billion in May 2021, according to Fortune.
Drew Barrymore
Actress Drew Barrymore now has her own daytime talk show, but it’s far from her only successful venture. She’s also the founder of the production company Flower Films, which is partially responsible for some of Drew’s hit movies including Fever Pitch, He’s Just Not That Into You, Never Been Kissed, and Fifty First Dates. And she also has a makeup brand, Flower Beauty.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop is now perhaps even more famous than she is. It’s always making the news for some bonkers gift idea or outrageous candle scent. But even though Gwyneth is often at the center of controversy due to her brand, all press is apparently good press. Goop was recently valued at $250 million.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé is a hit singer, obviously, but she’s much, much more than that. These days, the mom of three has her own record label and a fashion collection with Adidas. Though she did admit a couple of years ago that she sometimes struggles to do it all.
“I think the most stressful thing for me is balancing work and life,” she told Elle magazine. “Making sure I am present for my kids — dropping Blue off at school, taking Rumi and Sir to their activities, making time for date nights with my husband, and being home in time to have dinner with my family — all while running a company can be challenging. Juggling all of those roles can be stressful, but I think that’s life for any working mom.”
Reese Witherspoon
Actress Reese Witherspoon is a powerhouse talent in front of the camera, but she’s also a rock star behind it. She founded the media company Hello Sunshine, which is a tastemaker in everything from television production to book recommendations. Additionally, Reese owns the fashion brand Draper James. We don’t know how she does it all!
Kristin Cavallari
Once best known for Laguna Beach and the Hills, Kristin Cavallari has used her reality TV fame as a springboard to even greater success. She’s now been a TV host, actress, and designer for her brand Uncommon James. The company sells gorgeous jewelry and has expanded into clothing, sunglasses, home goods, and more.
Kylie Jenner
Forbes named Kylie Jenner the youngest self-made billionaire in 2019. There’s some debate about the term “self-made,” since Kylie became famous being on her family’s reality show, but there’s no denying that she has an empire. Her makeup line, Kylie Cosmetics, and skin care line, Kylie Skin, have propelled the 25-year-old to near-impossible heights.
Kim Kardashian
Like her sister, Kim Kardashian finally made the billionaires list in 2021 thanks to her successful business projects. The reality star has made a splash in both the makeup world with now-defunct KKW Beauty and the fashion world with Skims, her line of shapewear and lounge wear. In 2022, she launched SKKN by Kim.
Serena Williams
In addition to being a retired champion tennis player and a mom to her adorable mini-me, Serena Williams has all kinds of business ventures going on. She’s on the board of big companies including SurveyMonkey, she recently launched a fashion line, and she is part owner of the Miami Dolphins NFL team.
Chrissy Teigen
Most people these days know Chrissy Teigen from her always viral tweets, which often cause controversy. But she’s not just an online presence. She started out as a model, and she’s since extended her brand into television hosting, producing, writing cookbooks, developing a line of cookware, and more.
Whitney Port
Whitney Port isn’t just known for her stints on reality TV. The Hills star is also a popular lifestyle and fashion blogger with her own line for Rent the Runway, a podcast called With Whit, and a YouTube channel with 193,000 subscribers. Plus, she’s a doting mom to her son, Sonny. Busy, busy, busy.
Candace Cameron Bure
Acting remains one of Candace Cameron Bure’s biggest business ventures, but she’s expanded into other areas as well. She has a QVC fashion collection and a cookware line, and she’s written several books. And somehow, she fits all that in between filming a bunch of TV movies every year.
Jennifer Garner
Jennifer Garner is a passionate mother who wants all kids to be well-fed with healthy options. That’s why she cofounded the children’s food company Once Upon a Farm to deliver organic nutrition to little ones. By 2018, the business had grown tenfold in three years, mostly thanks to Jen’s involvement, according to Tech Crunch.
Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson’s namesake fashion and accessories line was founded in 2006 and as of 2015 was raking in a billion dollars annually. Jessica also partnered with Bed Bath & Beyond for a housewares line and she recently wrote a best-selling book (that’s getting turned into an Amazon Prime series) — all this while raising three kids.
Victoria Beckham
Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has long since left singing behind, and she’s made fashion her passion. Her eponymous clothing brand now includes a beauty line as well, and both companies are raking in the dough. Victoria is worth an estimated $450 million, which is three times more than any of her fellow Spice Girls.
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez might be best known for her music and acting career, but she’s also a businesswoman. She once designed her own clothing line for Kohl’s, and now she owns J.Lo Beauty, a luxe skin care line that promises to help customers defy aging the same way she has.
Rihanna
It’s been a minute since Rihanna released her last album, but her music has remained popular as fans continue to beg her for more — and that’s not all this soon-to-be mom of two has going on. She’s also the woman behind Fenty Beauty, her best-selling makeup line which is found in stores like Sephora and Ulta, and her Savage x Fenty line of lingerie and loungewear.
Taraji P. Henson
Taraji P. Henson’s son, Marcell, is now all grown up, but that just gives her even more time to focus on building her empire. Aside from her acting career, she also owns her own skin care line, TPH by Taraji Henson, and in 2022, her company, TPH Entertainment, inked a deal to create content for BET.
Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson has always been a movie legend (who else could have given that performance in How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days?), but we can’t forget that the mom of three is also the genius behind the fashion activewear brand Fabletics. According to Celebrity Net Worth, as of 2023 Kate is worth an estimated $80 million.
Kelly Clarkson
It’s easy to forget that we first met Kelly Clarkson on American Idol after all she’s accomplished since then. Aside from her wildly successful music career, Kelly is now also a talk show host with The Kelly Clarkson Show, and she even has her own furniture collection with Wayfair.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry welcomed her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom in 2020, and since then, she hasn’t seemed to slow down one bit. Along with her music career and her gig as a judge on American Idol, Katy also designs her own line of shoes.
Meghan Markle
You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who fits the description of a “boss mom” better than Meghan Markle does. She married into the royal family, turned it on its head, welcomed two children, and has proceeded to make solid business moves ever since, between her Archewell foundation, her Spotify podcast, and the major content deal that she and husband Prince Harry have with Netflix.
Check out our Meghan Markle page for all the latest news about Meghan, Prince Harry, and their growing family.
Sarah Jessica Parker
We truly have no idea how Sarah Jessica Parker, mom of three, does it. Not only did she bring Carrie Bradshaw to life in Sex and the City and And Just Like That, sparking a successful career in movies as well, but she also designs her own shoe collection and owns multiple shoe boutiques.
Alicia Keys
Aside from two children with Swizz Beatz and a music career that’s brought her 15 Grammy wins, Alicia Keys is an entrepreneur herself. In 2020, she partnered with the BFL to launch a $1 billion fund to support Black-owned businesses and founded her own skin care line, Keys Soul Care.
Kristen Bell
Kristen Bell shares two daughters with husband Dax Shepard, and her main gig is acting — but she does so much beyond that, too. She and Dax founded the baby care brand Hello Bello, and she’s part of entertainment creative agency Dunshire Productions.
Kat Von D
Celebrity tattoo artist and mom Kat Von D has turned her personal brand into so much more than that. Not only has she started a music career and released an album via her own record label, but she also launched Kat Von D Beauty, a vegan makeup collection. She sold the makeup company in 2020 and it rebranded to KVD Beauty.
