Two years after Cheer premiered on Netflix and introduced us to the inspiring Navarro College cheer team (and their fearless coach, Monica Aldama), the docuseries is finally back for more. On January 12, Cheer season two finally dropped, and it's very different from the show's first season. Not only does it take a look at how the members of the team grappled with their newfound fame after being featured on the show, but it also takes a deep dive into Jerry Harris' criminal charges involving minors — it's a lot to take in, y'all.
But one thing that hasn't changed is the fact that, at the heart of the show, this is a story about an extremely talented cheerleading team and the challenges the members face — whether that's the disappointment that came with the season getting canceled because of the pandemic, or the preparations the team is making to kill it in Daytona yet again.
Cheer wouldn't be what it is without the team, but where are the members today? Read on for an update on all Cheer cheerleaders and coaches who have gained fame since the show premiered.
Head Coach Monica Aldama
There would be no Navarro cheer without coach Monica Aldama — she's the heart and soul of the operation. She's been pretty busy since finding fame on Cheer. Not only did she compete on Dancing With the Stars in 2020, but she's also continued coaching and even wrote a book called Full Out.
Gabi Butler
When we first met Gabi Butler on Cheer, she was the most famous member of the team — and even today, she has nearly 2 million followers on Instagram. She has gone on to cheer with Weber State University's Wildcats, and it seems like she's still close with her Navarro family, too.
Jerry Harris
Though Jerry Harris was one of the most beloved members of the team on Cheer's first season, a lot has changed since then. In late 2020, Jerry was arrested for allegedly soliciting child pornography from minors (along with a whole host of other charges). Though he pleaded not guilty in December 2020, he continues to be held in custody in Chicago until his trial.
Lexi Brumback
In the first season of the show, we saw Lexi Brumback get kicked off of the team, but fortunately, she was able to come back for the 2020-2021 season. If you follow Lexi on Instagram, you probably already know that she's living life to the fullest with her boyfriend and working as an ambassador for brands such as Fenty.
Morgan Simianer
It seems like Morgan Simianer is still living her best life, even though she is no longer cheering (although she does still show her support to the Navarro team at competitions). She appears on Cheer season two, and she's in a relationship with Stone Burleson.
La'Darius Marshall
Not only has La'Darius Marshall continued cheering himself, but he's also continued coaching younger cheerleaders so they can find the same success he did. On Cheer, we learned that he had a difficult start to his life, but when he returned for season two, it seemed like things have been going really well for him.
Shannon Woolsey
Shannon Woolsey is still cheering — just not with Navarro. Instead, she is busy cheering at Texas Tech while also working as a personal trainer. She's in a relationship with Ben Christian, a fellow personal trainer who owns his own gym.
Mackenzie Sherburn
Mackenzie Sherburn also left Navarro to continue cheering at Texas Tech, though as of August 2021, she officially became a college graduate. These days, her focus seems to be on her health as she continues to hit the gym and, as she shared on Instagram, set goals for "eating good & feeling healthy & happy."
Austin Bayles
Add Austin Bayles to the list of former Navarro cheerleaders who are now on the team at Texas Tech. He has continued to share photos from cheering with his followers on Instagram — and a flashback to the time he got hurt while cheering with Navarro in season one.
Andy Cosferent
Any cheerleading team is nothing without its coaches, and for Navarro, that includes assistant coach Andy Cosferent. Since season one, he seems to have moved on — not only did he just make a small appearance in Cheer season two, but he also started his own choreography business, Cheer Source.
Kailee Peppers
When Monica left to compete on DWTS, it was former Navarro cheerleader Kailee Peppers who stepped up to coach in her absence. She has also cheered with Texas Tech, though it seems like she's continued to spend plenty of time with her former Navarro teammates.
