Remember when Donald Trump made a joke about a third term and everyone laughed it off? And remember when he continued to make comments about it, per NBC News, even going as far as to claim his supporters also want him to somehow have a third presidential term? Yeah, it’s getting less funny.
Now that his son, Eric Trump, made a comment about his own presidential bid, according to Newsweek, it’s looking more and more likely that the Trump name will stay in the White House.
Eric has not yet officially thrown his MAGA hat into the ring for the 2028 election. However, he hasn’t totally ruled it out. And, if Eric runs for president and wins, mostly because of his last name, it means Trump would be back in office, in a small way. There is a two-term limit for U.S. presidents, but if Eric were elected, it could keep Trump around.
Eric Trump has not denied the possibility of running for president.

Eric spoke to Nikkei Asia about the stablecoin cryptocurrency and promised to be rolling it out in the Middle East, Asia, and in the U.S. Despite the conversation being centered around the crypto, which found Eric at the Bitcoin Asia conference, there were questions about his political aspirations, and whether or not he intends to follow in his father’s footsteps.
“I’m not saying no, but I’m also not saying yes,” he told the outlet. He also said that he isn’t ruling out a career in politics. For the most part, Eric’s world has been that of a businessman.
According to the Trump Organization website, Eric is the executive vice president of the company in charge of acquisitions, finances, and other important aspects of bringing in capital.
Eric also plays a key role in the Trump organization’s real estate sector.
But, just because he doesn’t have a history in politics, it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t make the leap to the presidential ticket, not unlike his father before him. Now, it seems, if Eric runs for president after Trump’s second term is up, he could carry on a family tradition in the White House.
He has spoken about it before, and even admitted that it would be “easy” for another member of the Trump family to find themselves in the Oval Office. Would they be considered nepo babies, if that were to happen? It kind of seems that way.
In June 2025, Eric told the Financial Times that, at the time, he wasn’t sure if he wanted himself or other members of his family “subjected to the brutality” of being in politics and in the spotlight in that way. However, he also said that there are multiple Trump family members to choose from.
“Would I want my kids to live the same experience over the last decade that I’ve lived? You know, if the answer was yes, I think the political path would be an easy one, meaning, I think I could do it,” he told the outlet. “And by the way, I think other members of our family could do it too.”
Eric does have older siblings Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. as potential candidates for future ballots. Then there’s younger siblings Barron and Tiffany Trump.
In his own version of a perfect world, we can see the Trump patriarch gunning for the White House again, however he can get himself there after his second term.
