Over the last few years, Jessa Duggar has shared so much of the process of moving into her new house and all of the renovations that came with it. But her latest update is getting some mixed reviews from fans, who are confused by everything from the muted color palette to the decor that’s hanging on the walls.
It all started when Jessa shared a photo of her bedroom on Instagram. Really, she was sharing a picture of her son, Henry, sound asleep in her bed during the day while still wearing his glasses. But the photo also happened to provide a good look at her decor, and people have a lot to say about it.
While some commenters did focus on how adorable Henry is (plenty of kids really do keep playing until they’re so tired they pass out without taking off their glasses), others were quick to point out a potential safety issue: The big shelf above the bed.
“Still freaks me out seeing that shelf full of stuff above the bed,” one commenter shared. “Is Ben okay with that?”
Another wrote: “Do you not have earthquakes where you live? We could never have cute decor over our beds here!”
Others zeroed in on the fact that Henry was wearing his glasses: “Just saying that glasses will break if worn to sleep. And its not recommended to be worn when you go to bed.”
As if that wasn’t enough, critics on Reddit took even more digs at Jessa, this time totally focusing on her decor and neutral color scheme.
“I’d never want a room with these colors, I’d have to have at least one colorful wall and a more colorful quilt on the bed,” one person wrote. “And why isn’t there a headboard?”
The picture on the wall of Ben and Jessa kissing also drew a lot of side-eye all on its own. “Does anyone else have a giant picture on the wall of themselves and their hubby kissing?” one commenter wondered. “I know I don’t.”
Fortunately, not everyone was on Jessa’s back about her bedroom. In fact, more than one Redditor did acknowledge that decorating her home in calm colors like this might just be a response to growing up in a busy house with 18 siblings.
“I suspect this is a subconscious reaction to the chaos of growing up Duggar,” one commenter suggested.
They might be onto something there …
