Elle King wasn’t moved at all by her father’s public apology. In August 2024, the 35-year-old singer-songwriter opened up in conversation with Bunnie Xo on her Dumb Blonde podcast, in which she talked about the complicated relationship she has with Rob Schneider and how he was pretty much absent for most of her childhood. Following the airing of the podcast episode, Rob, 60, appeared on The Tucker Carlson Show and publicly apologized to his daughter.

She doesn't regret sharing her story.
Opening up to People, Elle shared that she has no remorse about what she said on the podcast. “A lot of people said, ‘How could she say that about her family?’ and ‘Everything needs to be behind closed doors,'” she said. “No, it doesn’t. Sometimes you have to just say things and get them off your chest so that you don’t have to carry it for the rest of your life.”
Elle doesn't think her dad's apology means anything.
“But ultimately, I think an apology on Tucker Carlson is like a double negative, right?” Elle added. “Means nothing.”
Rob’s apology circulated the internet after his daughter openly talked about their strained relationship. “I just want to tell my daughter: I love you, and I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed,” he said at the time. “I clearly wasn’t, and I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings.”

She wasn't trying to hurt him.
Further speaking about the podcast, Elle explains that she didn’t meant to cause any ill feelings toward her dad. “I never in a million years thought that that was going to go viral. I was just speaking about my childhood and about my truth,” she said. “I was not trying to hurt him.”
Elle addressed Rob being a 'toxic' father.
On the podcast episode, Elle gave some insight into how she feels about her dad. “I disagree with a lot of the things he says,” she said. “I go four or five years without talking to my dad. My dad called me and was like, ‘Don’t f—ing talk about me in the press.’ I was like, ‘Get f—ed.’”
She says he wasn't a present father.
In the podcast, the singer continued talking about how her dad “forgot every single birthday” and that he also sent her to “fat camp” once.
“All you can control is how you react and what you do with your feelings,” she stated. “And sometimes I f—ing boil up and I boil over and I f—ing bust my lid. I’m trying so hard to not be that way.”
