Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s Public Joke About Her Mom’s Murder Is Not Landing

More than two years after Gypsy-Rose Blanchard was released from prison after serving nearly a decade behind bars for her involvement in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, she’s landed herself in hot water by joking about the incident. After Gypsy-Rose brought up Dee Dee’s killing in a viral TikTok video, fans are raking her over the coals. As it turns out, it is too soon to make jokes about something so serious.

Gypsy-Rose made a video to fit a popular TikTok trend.

While appearing in a video with popular TikToker Natalie Reynolds, Gypsy-Rose took part in the “we listen and we don’t judge” trend — or videos where people make embarrassing confessions that viewers aren’t allowed to judge them for.

Natalie’s “confession” was pretty tasteless (she claims she bet a homeless woman $20 she wouldn’t jump into a lake, only to discover that the woman couldn’t swim), but still, Gypsy managed to take it a step further with her own confession.

“I went to prison for eight and a half years because I … my own mom,” she said, crossing her hands over her neck in an X-shape instead of saying the word “killed.”

Gypsy’s next confessions were a bit more tame, but it was too late — the damage had been done, and the more than one million viewers on the video made their feelings about what she said very clear in the comments.

Fans were immediately taken aback by the joke.

The comments definitely weren’t on Gypsy’s side; the majority of people who reacted to the video did not think that her joke was funny whatsoever — or that this was actually something people shouldn’t judge her for.

“There’s absolutely nothing funny in this, this is actually so freaking wrong,” one commenter wrote.

Another TikTok commenter said, “Imagine her daughter watching this one day.”

Gypsy is a mom to daughter Aurora, who celebrated her first birthday in December. She shares her with boyfriend Ken Urker. Aurora is way too young to stumble upon a video on the internet on her own, but it is totally possible she sees this clip eventually.

Gypsy has already responded to the backlash.

While speaking with TMZ on Monday, Gypsy admitted she missed the mark this time.

“Usually, I think I can bank on my audience receiving things very well, but I’m not the type of person to be very in your face about my past,” she said. “This is the first time that I tried something different in a head-on approach. Unfortunately, it wasn’t received like we wanted.”

She added, “The whole idea behind it [is], yes, we understand that we’re not perfect, we are influencers, and we have gone through some difficult things. but we are focusing on positivity. That was the entire point of the video, is accountability and growth.”
