The best-known royal family may be the British one, thanks to Queen Elizabeth's 69-year reign — as well as interest in the younger, more modern generation like Kate Middleton and Prince William. But the British royal family is far from the only one. There are so many international royals, from the monarchs of Sweden and Spain to the reigning families of Bhutan and Japan. And just like how the UK has Kate Middleton, all of those other families also have fashionable princesses among their ranks.
It's true that the Duchess of Cambridge is among the most stylish of all the royals. After all, she reportedly helped to boost the UK fashion market by a whopping $1 billion. And every time she wears anything, it sells out almost instantly. But she can take inspiration from these global royal tastemakers, too.
Princess Mary of Denmark
The Crown Princess of Denmark loves fashion, especially designer handbags. Reportedly, she has a $200,000 purse collection, including a legendary black crocodile Hermès Birkin bag (pictured here). Kate Middleton's got some great clutches, but maybe she can borrow a bag or two from Mary to up her style game.
Princess Stéphanie of Luxembourg
Princess Stéphanie is married to Luxembourg's Grand Duke Guillaume, who's next in line for the throne. Since she'll be the Grand Duchess some day, she's already started working on her royal wardrobe. Her proper, yet fun sense of style is right up there with Kate's, whom Stéphanie got to meet during Kate's 2017 trip to Luxembourg.
Princess Lalla Salma of Morocco
Princess Lalla Salma is a revolutionary royal for Morocco. She's the first wife of any Moroccan king to have a title, and the first to be photographed in public. Still, Lalla Salma leads a pretty private life, and we have to cherish the few glimpses of her stellar style that we can get. She wore this gorgeous blue dress to Princess Stéphanie's Luxembourg wedding.
Queen Letizia of Spain
Queen Letizia married into the royal family, having been a news anchor prior to meeting and falling in love with Spain's King Felipe VI. She's now fully embraced royal life, from the charity events to the access to the stellar fashion. She's often dressed in designer best, and she's even twinned with Meghan Markle on a few occasions. (They both own this red leather skirt, for instance.)
Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan
The 30-year-old queen usually wears traditional Bhutanese clothing, and she prefers bright colors and pretty patterns. Perhaps Kate was able to take a fashion note or two from the queen when she visited the Bhutanese royal family in 2016. To see more of Queen Jetsun Pema's fashion, check out her Instagram. She's always showing off fun photos of her family (she has two kids), her life, and of course, her amazing outfits.
Princess Victoria of Sweden
Victoria is the Crown Princess of Sweden, and is due to become queen after her father passes along the throne. She's been in training to be the country's top royal since childhood, so she's grown up in the spotlight. As such, she's developed a sense of style that is both attractive and professional. We love this jungle-inspired printed dress.
Princess Madeleine of Sweden
Victoria's younger sister, Princess Madeleine, is basically the Prince Harry of Sweden — in that she's likely never going to rule because she's the spare to the heir. But she still seems to have a good time with her various royal duties, and she's got a great personal style. She even owns the exact same dress as the Duchess of Cambridge. Kate has the Jenny Packham design in teal, while Madeleine's got it in this baby blue shade.
Princess Sofia of Sweden
Sofia's a princess via marriage, having wed Victoria's younger brother, Prince Carl Philip. Before she joined the Swedish royal family, Sofia was a model and reality show contestant, and she'd even posed nude for a magazine. Since marrying into the family, though, her style has changed a lot. It's much more prim and proper these days — but still super chic.
Princess Mette-Marit of Norway
You know your royal style is on point when you own the same piece as Kate Middleton. Princess Mette-Marit of Norway and the Duchess of Cambridge both have a silvery Erdem dress in their closets — and Mette-Marit wore it first! We also like the floral dress she is wearing here. She donned the item for Princess Sofia's pre-wedding dinner.
Queen Rania of Jordan
Like most royals, Queen Rania has a whole host of causes she's dedicated to helping. Her biggest focus area is education, especially for young children. When she enters a room or gives a speech, she has a commanding presence, and that's due in large part to her chic sense of fashion. She often wears outfits in bold colors and with unique structural designs — like this gold and blue dress that has glitter accents and a pleated cowl neck.
Queen Mathilde of Belgium
Belgium's queen is raising a little fashionista, because 19-year-old Princess Elisabeth is seriously stylish. And she seems to get that from her mom. Like Kate, Mathilde loves bold colors and coordinating accessories. We love how she matched her hat and clutch to the purple flowers on her dress. Even her face mask is coordinated.
Princess Mako of Japan
Japan's royal family includes many fashion tastemakers, among them 29-year-old Princess Mako. She's the current emperor's niece and has a modest, yet stylish wardrobe. We especially love this blue, green, and brown floral dress she wore when visiting Bhutan a couple of years ago. It's got such a 1960s/1970s vibe to it.
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands
Queen Máxima may be married to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, and she's doing the work now that Kate Middleton will do when Prince William ascends the British throne. And Máxima looks great while carrying out her royal duties. Her style is very trendy, like when she wore this balloon-sleeve top with a chic pair of checked pants.
Princess Iman Abdullah of Malaysia
The 28-year-old is the king of Malaysia's daughter, and she totally reminds us of a young Kate Middleton. Both women are moms with a similar passion for advocating for mental health. Plus, they both seem to have modern attitudes for their royal families, and they have a great fashion sense. We hope they get to meet some day.
Princess Charlene of Monaco
While Monaco has several princesses, Charlene ranks the highest, as she's married to the reigning Prince Albert II. As such, she gets to attend a lot of fancy events and wear gorgeous gowns. This green cape dress totally looks like something we can picture Meghan Markle wearing. It's very stately and impressive.
Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco
Being 11th in line to the throne pretty much means that Charlotte Casiraghi is never going to rule. But she seems to be enjoying a pretty good life anyway. She's dabbled in equestrianism, journalism, film production, and fashion. And her keen sense of style and status have made her a repeat invitee to New York's Met Gala, one of the most fashionable events of the year.
Pauline Ducruet of Monaco
The 27-year-old is 16th in line to the throne, so she's obviously found some other passions in life to offset the fact that she's never likely to rule. Like Charlotte, she has an interest in fashion. Pauline now works as a designer for the clothing brand Alter. Her Instagram is filled with photos of her chicest outfits.
Jazmin Grace Grimaldi of Monaco
Jazmin is Prince Albert II's first daughter from a previous relationship, but because her mother and Albert never married, Jazmin has no rights to the throne. Instead, she lives in New York, working as a singer and an actress. One of her most notable roles was a small part in the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Princess Alessandra de Osma of Hanover
Princess Alessandra is married to Prince Christian, second in line to the Hanoverian throne — only the throne and role don't actually exist anymore. But she still gets the princess title, so that's pretty cool. Alessandra reminds us a lot of Amal Clooney. Like George's wife, she's an attorney who recently welcomed twins — and she has a killer fashion sense.
Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece & Denmark
Princess Maria-Olympia comes from the same royal line as the late Prince Philip. The Greek and Danish throne no longer exists, but at least she still has a title. The young princess goes by Olympia of Greece and is already a world-renowned fashion model. See more of the 24-year-old's glamorous life on her Instagram.
