Jamie Foxx Says He ‘Went to Hell and Back’ in First Statement Since His Hospitalization

Jamie Foxx is opening up about the medical scare that had fans worried for months. The star was hospitalized in April, but few details were shared with the public, prompting many rumors to circulate about the cause of his medical scare, and how things might be for him if he recovered.

Now, Jamie is sharing a little bit about what he went through.

"I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back," Jamie shared of the support from fans, in an emotional three-minute video posted to his Instagram account on Friday.

"I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through and I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you I just didn't want you to see me like that, man," Jamie said.

Jamie didn't want people to see him while he was in the thick of his medical fight.

"I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show," he said. "I didn't want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through."

"I went to hell and back," Jamie admitted, adding that his "road to recovery had some potholes as well, but I'm coming back and I'm able to work."

He thanked his fans and family for their messages and prayers.

Thanking "everybody that's prayed man and sent me messages," Jamie also took time to share his gratitude to the "great medical people" who cared for him while he was in the hospital.

"I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back," he said, though he kept the specifics about what exactly happened to himself.

Jamie also credited his daughter, Corinne Foxx, and his sister, Deidra Dixon, for their part in his recovery and care.

Jamie shared that his daughter and sister "saved his life."

"I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way — and y'all know they kept it airtight, they didn't let nothin' out. They protected me," he said. "And that's what I hope everyone could have in the moments like these."

Adding, "If you see me out from now on, and every once in a while I just burst into tears, it's because it's been tough man, I was sick man, but now I've got my legs under me so you'll see me out."

Holding back tears, Jamie said he appreciates 'all the love' he received through all this.

"I know they talk about people crying on videos," he said. "You can do a take two; I'm not gonna do a take two. It is what it is. If you see me out from now on and every once and a while, I just burst into tears, it's because it's been tough, man. I've been sick, man. But now, I've got my legs under me, so you're gonna see me out."

"But like I said, I just want you to remember me for the jokes that I crack, the movies that I make — some of them good, some of them ain't and songs that I sing."

He ended the video by saying, "I'm on my way back."
