When the podcast host and right-wing conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot on the Utah Valley University campus, his death sparked outrage and comments from both sides of the coin. Those who supported his beliefs and work with Turning Point USA mourned Kirk, while others spoke openly about their opposition of his views after his death and their opposition of Kirk as a whole.
Celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis were among those who made comments about Kirk. Yes, Laurie Strode spoke about Kirk after he was shot and killed, and she didn’t immediately condemn his behavior and words. Before we all grab out internet pitchforks, though, Curtis later went back on her comments, in a way, and clarified what she said. It still isn’t great, according to some of her fans. Well, former fans, in some cases.

Jamie Lee Curtis had some choice words about Charlie Kirk.
After Kirk’s death, Curtis appeared on the WTF podcast. She spoke to host Marc Maron about Kirk and his Christian faith. She said that, while she did not support his beliefs or what he said during his life, she hoped that the slain conservative felt peace with God in the final moments before death.
Well, that was enough for some people to throw in the towel on their love for Jamie Lee Curtis. Some condemned her words about Kirk and took them to mean that she actually supports him in death. Later, though, Curtis spoke to Variety and cleared things up about what she meant when she spoke to Maron.
“An excerpt of it mistranslated what I was saying as I wished him well, like I was talking about him in a very positive way, which I wasn’t,” she told the outlet. “I was simply talking about his faith in God.”
She also said that she has to be who she is, even if she is “contradictory” in some of her thoughts and beliefs.
“In the binary world today, you cannot hold two ideas at the same time,” she said. “I cannot be Jewish and totally believe in Israel’s right to exist and at the same time reject the destruction of Gaza. You can’t say that, because you get vilified for having a mind that says, ‘I can hold both those thoughts. I can be contradictory in that way.'”
Does that mean Curtis’s fans totally support her apparent support of Kirk’s religious convictions? She did say she doesn’t share his hateful ideologies, so there’s that. The issue some see is Curtis speaking about Kirk at all, and especially in anything less than a negative light. For Curtis, though, it’s about speaking her mind and saying what she wants.
Yes, even if that means also going back to comments and clarifying what she meant for the people in the back.
