Jessa Duggar Called Out for Having D&C After Miscarriage Despite Her Views on Abortion

After filling fans in on the pregnancy she lost, Jessa Duggar is getting called out. In a YouTube vlog about her recent miscarriage, Jessa revealed she had to undergo a D&C procedure, and her family's staunchly anti-abortion beliefs have earned her quite a bit of backlash.

Jessa shared the update over the weekend.

After one video titled "Happy News" where she revealed she was pregnant again, Jessa followed up with another one called "Heartbreak Over the Holidays" where she explained that she'd lost the pregnancy.

Critics did call her out for the bait-and-switch tactics she used for these videos, but that wasn't the only part of these videos that people took issue with.

Jessa had to undergo a D&C as part of her miscarriage.

After experiencing some spotting at home, Jessa's next ultrasound appointment revealed that the baby "did not look good," and she said that because of her history of hemorrhaging during birth, it would not have been safe to wait it out at home.

"We decided to go to the hospital, get checked in there, and go through the process of a D&C," she explained.

Mayo Clinic defines a D&C — or dilation and curettage — as a "procedure to remove tissue from inside your uterus."

This is the same procedure used in some abortions, and in Arkansas, this has been made illegal except in the case of a fetus without a heartbeat or if the life of the mother is in danger.

Jessa is being called out online for her and her family's anti-abortion beliefs.

As long as the Duggar family has been in the spotlight, they have made their views on abortion very clear; in fact, back in 2014, Jessa even compared abortion to the Holocaust in a post on Instagram.

Knowing this, people aren't wasting time calling her out for taking advantage of this life-saving procedure after participating in activism to take that option away from other women who need it.

The backlash online has been very intense.

On Twitter, people are cataloguing the Duggars' past anti-abortion statements and activism in the face of Jessa's procedure, pointing out the hypocrisy.

"I wish everyone had access to the kind of post-miscarriage dilation & curettage (D&C) procedure that Jessa Duggar had. You know, the thing her people consider abortion and have banned in several states)," another person tweeted.

It's good to know that Jessa was able to receive the health care she needed.

It's because of the beliefs of people like the Duggars, however, that other women around the country may not have that same opportunity, and that's certainly something Jessa should acknowledge after being so outspoken against abortion for years.

We'd hope this would be the wake-up call she needed to realize just how essential it is to make procedures like this one available to anyone who might need or want one, but something tells us that may not be the way this shakes out.
