Everyone's path to parenthood is different, but LGBTQ+ couples certainly have a different set of challenges, because conceiving a baby usually involves a good bit of science. And unfortunately, it doesn't always work — just take it from New Kids on the Block singer Jonathan Knight, who is opening up about the five-year struggle he and his husband faced trying to have a baby.
Jonathan appeared on Lance Bass' podcast this week.
Chatting with boybander Lance Bass on his Frosted Tips podcast, 54-year-old Jordan revealed that he and Harley tried to conceive for five years, but it "didn't happen for us."
"Going through the process, like, 'Today's the day the eggs are being [transferred], you're so excited, and you're so happy," he said. "And then, you know, a week later it's like, 'No, you're you're back to square one.'"
Lance could relate.
Today, he and husband Michael Turchin are parents to twins, but he revealed on the podcast that it was also a five-year journey for them, which included a loss of twins before their surrogate was able to conceive the ones they are parenting today.
"I mean, we went through 10 different donors, we weren't pregnant 10 times, but you know, when you pick a donor, the emotions that go through that, so every time one would not work, it's just like it's so depressing," Lance said.
Jonathan and Harley only got married recently.
In an August 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jonathan confirmed that he and Harley had quietly gotten married, adding that a bigger celebration would be coming in the future.
"Everybody just assumed we're married, so, I never say yes or no 'cause I don't wanna lie," he said at the time.
He's been super busy lately.
Despite living the newlywed life and continuing to perform with New Kids on the Block, Jonathan is also the host of his own HGTV series, Farmhouse Fixer. It sounds like he and Harley have a full and happy life, even though they had to put their dreams of having children aside.
It's good to see these two living happily ever after.
It's heartbreaking to see what some people go through to conceive, but it's commendable that Jonathan was so willing to open up about it, since there will be plenty of people out there who will unfortunately be able to relate.
There's no doubt that their fertility journey was difficult on them both, so it's good to see that they're doing well today.
