Joy-Anna Duggar Tearfully Explains Why She Was Afraid Son Gunner Was ‘Going To Die’

When one of your kids is hurt or in danger, it’s one of the most terrifying feelings. Even if you do everything right, there’s always a chance that things will still end badly. Joy-Anna Duggar opened up about a recent incident involving her 1-year-old son, Gunner, that left her feeling shaken. Thankfully the toddler is OK, but it was definitely scary for Joy while it was all happening.

Gunner is the youngest of the three children she shares with husband Austin Forsyth, along with their oldest son, Gideon, and daughter, Evelyn. Joy-Anna has faced criticism in the past for her parenting skills, but this time, we have a feeling fellow parents will have a lot of sympathy for her.

Joy-Anna recently shared the incident with her social media followers.

Joy-Anna opened up about the situation in her latest vlog. In the beginning, she explained that she was taking her kids with her to help out at a youth camp, calling it the “highlight” of their year. The first half of the video showed the kids jumping on a trampoline, swimming in a lake, and even helping to clean and drive an ATV. And then, Joy shared that she ended up having to rush Gunner to the hospital.

The whole situation sounds terrifying.

At first, Joy-Anna admitted that she had debated sharing the story at all but then assured her viewers that her family was safe. She then relayed the harrowing story of sharing food with Gunner when he began to choke. He had been given a piece of ham to eat when he bit off too much and it lodged in his throat, causing him to choke.

“I was so tired physically that emotionally I was just done. I was crying at this point and [I was] hitting him on the back,” she admitted in the video. She went on to explain that she does know what to do in these situations, but when Austin is around, she “doesn't have to be as strong.”

Austin is a trained EMT, and has experience in these kinds of situations.

“I just handed Gunner to Austin and I started crying,” Joy-Anna admitted.

She experienced every parent's worst nightmare.

“All those what-ifs come to your mind right away. [Gunner] threw up multiple times [and] still hadn't thrown up the ham and was gagging and was not breathing for 20 seconds,” she continued in the video. “After that, he was able to take some shallow breaths but was still struggling and was lethargic. We decided to get in the car and head to the hospital.”

She continued to describe the terrifying event, including counting her son’s breaths while they drove, before admitting that she feared Gunner would die before they arrived at the hospital.

Thankfully, Gunner is just fine now.

“There were a couple points on the drive that he stopped breathing and I was just crying out to God like 'Please save him' and I've never been to a point where I thought I was going to lose one of my kids,” Joy-Anna said tearfully. “It was just like that thought of like he is going to die came to my mind and it was terrifying.”

Joy-Anna went on to explain that at the hospital, nurses admitted that things looked good, but Gunner still had x-rays done. Soon, he was given the all-clear with instructions to keep an eye on him.

“After something like that, I feel like you just really [need to] hug your babies a little bit tighter,” she shared.
