Resentencing Judge Tells Julie Chrisley She Doesn’t ‘Get a Pass’ From Prison Because She Has Kids

After a judge ruled that Julie Chrisley‘s 84-month prison sentence should be overturned due to insufficient evidence earlier this year, she’s spent months waiting to be resentenced. But when the hearing finally happened this week, things didn’t go the way she and her family hoped. And what’s more? The judge presiding over the hearing made it very clear that the former Chrisley Knows Best star wouldn’t be getting any leniency just because she has children who depend on her.

Julie's hearing took place on Wednesday.

The judge at the court of the Northern District of Georgia decided to reinstate Julie’s original 84-month sentence after she and husband Todd were convicted on tax evasion and fraud charges in June 2022.

According to PeopleJulie’s request for a 24-hour furlough before self-reporting back to the Kentucky prison facility where she’s been serving time also was denied.

Family members and professionals wrote letters to the judge in Julie's defense.

Family members including Julie’s daughter Savannah wrote letters to support her, and a licensed therapist wrote to the judge about matters concerning Julie’s 18-year-old son and 11-year-old granddaughter, Chloe, who she and Todd had custody of before their convictions. Having children at home didn’t sway the judge, though — instead, she pointed out that many people who are incarcerated also have young children but less resources to work with than the Chrisleys do.

“I am concerned about the children but [with] all due respect, you don’t get a pass from criminal conduct because you’re a parent,” the judge said.

Julie spoke out during the sentencing.

“I would like to say I’ve had years to think about what I’ve wanted to say and I’m sorry for my actions and situations that led us to where we are today,” she said as she addressed the court. “I’ve had 20 months in prison, but it has been much more leading up to the trial and I apologize for my actions that led to where we are today.”

She said she’s been spending her time behind bars learning new skills and trying to “get closer to my family,” adding, “I can’t ever repay my children for what they’ve had to go through and for that, I am so sorry.”

One of Julie's attorneys thinks she's receiving a harsher punishment because she's in the public eye.

The attorney, Jay Surgent, told TMZ that he believes the judge has a bias against celebrities and is using her fame to make an example out of her. He also said that her legal team plans to appeal the resentencing.

Savannah Chrisley isn't happy about the way things went, either.

Savannah, Todd and Julie’s 27-year-old daughter who has had custody of Grayson and Chloe since her parents started serving their sentences, was present at the resentencing hearing. After it was over, she took to Instagram to share her thoughts in a video. She said the judge was taking “very personal jabs” at her and her family members during the hearing, including accusing Savannah of not taking care of her siblings’ “emotional well being.”

“Thank you for loving and standing by us. The fight is not over,” she wrote in her caption.
