Karoline Leavitt Is Accused of Lying About Epstein Files Without Cross Necklace On

To those who support or even criticize White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, her cross necklace goes hand in hand with a press briefing. More often than not, she wears it. But she doesn’t always wear it. One such time was during a briefing where she talked about the still-classified Jeffrey Epstein files.

During the briefing, Leavitt was not wearing her cross necklace. Some of her critics think that has a hidden meaning about what she was saying during the briefing. Epstein was a convicted felon and former investment banker who was arrested on charges of sex trafficking before his death in jail. For many years, people have speculated about a “client list” that Epstein kept that is rumored to have included many high-profile members of the business community.

People think Karoline Leavitt not wearing her cross necklace means she was lying.

As Newsweek reported, the Department of Justice announced to the public that there is no available client list in Epstein’s file. This comes after many have waited to see proof of who worked closely with him prior to his arrest. During the press briefing in which Leavitt shared this information, she did not wear her cross necklace. Some took this to mean that she was not being truthful in what she told reporters.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared a post with a clip from Leavitt’s press briefing about the Epstein list. They wrote that Leavitt “wasn’t wearing her cross necklace as she lied to the nation and aided in the largest cover-up in our nation’s history, protecting a cabal of pedophile elites!”

Someone commented in the thread on X to agree with the claims that Leavitt knew she was going to lie, so she removed her cross necklace, which is a sign of her Christian faith.

“I would like to be skeptical of this but honestly it just makes sense,” the commenter wrote. “I always see her with the cross and it would make sense for a devout Christian to intentionally not wear it when forced to sin. She probably felt particularly dirty about this one.”

She has spoken in the past about her faith.

Although Leavitt has not commented on the claims about why she didn’t wear her signature cross necklace for the press briefing about the Epstein case and allegedly nonexistent client list, she has spoken about her Christian faith before. In March 2025, Leavitt spoke to CBN News about growing up with faith at her core and how she still holds it close to her.

“My faith is incredibly important to me, I would argue, now more than ever, being in a role that is very demanding and at times controversial, and there’s a lot of public pressure and discussion online about who you are and your family,” she told the outlet. “And you know, it could be difficult for someone who doesn’t have faith but with faith, all things are possible.”

To be fair, this isn’t the first time Leavitt has been seen without the cross necklace, though it has drawn more criticism from the American public because of what she spoke about while not wearing the religious symbol. In June 2025, The Independent reported that Leavitt was seen without her cross after Jon Stewart poked fun at it on The Daily Show. After a brief time, however, the press secretary once again wore it in public.
