The book dates back to the mid-1990s.

According to the organizer of the auction, the book goes back to the mid-1990s and includes 221 names that have not yet been publicly linked to the convicted pedophile. "THERE IS NO INDICATION AT THIS TIME THAT ANY OF THE INDIVIDUALS LISTED IN THIS BOOK (EXCEPTING THOSE ALREADY TRIED AND CONVICTED) WERE IN ANY WAY ASSOCIATED WITH ANY CRIME COMMITTED BY JEFFREY EPSTEIN, AND WE DO NOT IN ANY WAY MAKE THAT ASSERTION," the site posted as a disclaimer.

Some names include special markings.

Certain names in the book appear with special markings, per the site. "Additionally, 94 names bear black, hand-applied checkmarks, and five have been highlighted in yellow," it states. "All five names, including that of Donald Trump, are well-recognized financial and industrial figures. The significance of the checked and highlighted names is unknown."

The book contains far more than just individual names.

For most names written in the book, information is also included on those people connected to them. The site notes that "residential addresses and numbers, contact information for family members, secretaries, immediate employees, and associates of the individual, cell phone and pager numbers, and in at least one instance, a contact's girl friend's number" appear to be written in.

The owner of Alexander Historical Auctions says a lot of people have shown interest.

Bill Panagopulos, owner of Alexander Historical Auctions, told the New York Post that despite Epstein's dark past, many people have shown interest in the auction. ā€œAs far as I know, Mr. Epsteinā€™s estate is in no way involved in any manner,ā€ he said. ā€œAs for the proceeds of the sale, I can say with a great deal of confidence that they will be going to a party that does not, nor ever did have any connection with Mr Epstein or anyone named in the book.ā€

The book was discovered on a sidewalk by a musician.

According to the auction organizer, the book was found on a Manhattan Fifth Avenue sidewalk in the mid-1990s by a musician. The woman put it into storage and it wasn't until 2020, while she was cleaning out her unit, that she realized it belonged to Epstein. She initially contacted media outlets who failed to engage with her, leading her to list it for sale on eBay, where it was purchased by a graduate student in the US who has kept it since.
