Times Kate Gosselin Has Been Accused of Harming Her Kids

It's been well over a decade since Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin decided to go their separate ways, and there's never been a dull moment involving this former Jon & Kate Plus 8 couple, their custody battles, or their accusations against each other ever since. Over the last couple of years, more and more disturbing details about the Gosselins have come to light — including allegations of abuse against Kate from Jon, his kids, and other family members who have said they've observed some upsetting things go on behind the scenes.

Of course, it's hard to confirm a lot of these accusations, and when it comes to potential abuse — especially where children are involved — it should all be taken seriously. There have been far too many allegations made against Kate recently, particularly where Hannah and Collin are concerned, and it definitely makes us worry for her children.

Read on for all of the times Kate has been accused of abuse (both physical and mental) involving her children. We sincerely hope these allegations aren't true, but if they are, we hope that the kids are able to get the help they need.

Zip-Tying Collin to a Chair

A report filed against Kate in 2018 was recently revealed, and it included allegations that Collin made against his mother. According to the teen, she had zip-tied him to a chair, made him sleep in the closet or basement so he would be separated from his sextuplet siblings, and considered him a "bad child" — and this was all before she sent him to a treatment center for his "special needs."

The Effects on Collin

The same report revealed that Collin had been diagnosed from trauma and PTSD, potentially because of the way his mother had treated him.

"Citing a December, 2018 report submitted to the Court of Common Pleas of Berks County, Pennsylvania the sources claim a certified traumatologist and counselor concluded that Collin was suffering from trauma and chronic PTSD," the report said.

Turning the Kids Against Jon

In 2017, Jon's mother accused Kate of brainwashing their kids against him, making them call him "Jon" and asking them to chant. She told In Touch at the time, "Hannah told me that Kate made her and her brothers and sisters all chant, 'We will not visit Jon.' Not even 'We will not visit Daddy.' She makes them say 'Jon.'"

Demanding a Psych Evaluation

After hearing what Hannah had reportedly told her about her mom's treatment of her and her siblings, Jon's mother also said that everyone needed a psychological evaluation… including Kate. "After eight years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal bills, there should be a psych evaluation for the whole family," she said. "And after everything that has happened, I demand a psych evaluation for Kate."

Incident at the Dentist

Also in 2017, there was a public custody dispute between Jon and Kate at a dentist's office that got so bad the police were involved. One of the children — later revealed to be Hannah — reportedly wanted to leave with her father instead of going home with her mother, and things got very ugly, very quickly. According to Jon's mom, it may have been worse than what we already knew.

Kate Allegedly Used Physical Force

In the same In Touch interview, Jon's mom said she was there during the dentist's incident, and accused Kate of using "physical force" against her children at the time.

"I would never have believed that a scene could be so horrible until I witnessed the custody exchange myself," she said. "How can a judge allow physical force to remove a child? Kate thinks there is nothing wrong with her, so she would never subject herself to going to therapy. But she needs psychological help."

Mental & Physical Abuse

During an appearance on The Dr. Oz Show, Jon shared that he believed the kids had been the subject of "mental and physical abuse" while they lived with Kate — to the point that he was actively working with Hannah and Collin to repair the wounds their mother had allegedly created while they were under her care.

Jon's Accusations

In the interview, Jon didn't mince words when he said that Hannah and Jon behaved like they were 12, instead of 15, because of the treatment they'd been subjected to in Kate's home.

"A lot of stuff happened, abuse wise, mental, physical — even though they are 15, they might [behave like they're] 12. The mental abuse, the [parental] alienation, just the put-downs … Isolation is a huge one," he said. "I make them join clubs and go to dances and football games. … We all go to … therapy."

Kate's Reported Personality Disorders

During the same appearance on The Dr. Oz Show, Jon said that he believed Kate had "personality disorders" and an addiction to fame that were harmful to the kids. This might have explained the way she reportedly behaved toward them, and what the children — especially Collin — had been put through while living under her roof.

The Effect on Kate's Life

"Fame's different only because fame … things are given to you," Jon said. "You're held to a higher standard. You're put on a pedestal … the attention, it's almost like a drug," the single dad mentioned. "Like an addiction. And once you have that, and that lifestyle, you can see certain tendencies in people. It just … it feeds and feeds and feeds."

Allegedly Forcing the Children to Film

We know that Kate was reportedly fired from TLC in 2019 because she failed to get the proper permissions (and permits) for her minor children to film for her show, Kate Plus Date. But in that same explosive Dr. Oz interview, Jon also accused her of forcing the kids to film against their will to help provide her livelihood.

What the Kids Supposedly Said About Filming

"They have all said they have to film because they feel they need to provide a lifestyle for their mother," Jon told Dr. Oz during his interview, speaking of what Hannah and Collin told him now that they live with him full time. "They don't want to film. They said they have to film. That's heartbreaking. Why do my kids need to provide for themselves? They're kids."

Parental Alienation

During an appearance on the First Class Fatherhood podcast, Jon said that since Hannah and Collin started living with him full-time, they had been cut off from their siblings. Needless to say, Jon blamed Kate for that, admitting that he didn't believe things would change until the kids were all driving and could make up their own minds to see their siblings.

Keeping the Kids Away

At the time, Jon called the situation "tumultuous," and said that both parental alienation and sibling alienation were at play. "There's no contact between Collin and his other siblings," Jon said on the podcast, reports People. "There's contact between Hannah and the other siblings. So the problem right now is we have parent alienation and sibling alienation."

Kate's 'Inhumane' Treatment of Collin

In 2019, Jon told Daily Mail TV that Collin had written him a letter in crayon while he was living at the center that Kate had sent him to for his "special needs," asking his father to come and save him. At the time, Jon said that it was "inhumane" of Kate to make him live somewhere apart from his family and siblings.

What Collin Said

In the letter, Collin claimed his mother had been "abusive" to him when he'd gotten home from Jon's house and begged his father to save him.

"She can't choose for me," Collin wrote in the letter, according to Jon. "I'm old enough now, I'm YOUR son, not hers. She was abusive to me after I left your house. I'm sorry. Take this to court because … you're my dad, my savior."
