The royal family was spotted celebrating Easter together at Windsor Castle on Sunday, marking the first time Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the holiday church service since being named the Prince and Princess of Wales. Royal watchers couldn't help but notice that Kate commemorated the moment with a surprising new manicure.

Kate dazzled as she made her way into St. George's Chapel with her family.
The Waleses were all smiles as they walked together in coordinated blue outfits. Kate looked vibrant in a royal blue ensemble, with William and her two sons opting for darker navy overcoats for the occasion.
Prince Louis let a little color peek through on his outfit with a pair of light blue shorts and a matching blue button-down shirt and tie, while William and Prince George seemed to be twinning in matching suits. Princess Charlotte was also pretty in blue, with a pair of tights poking out beneath her overcoat.
There was a surprising pop of color in all that blue, though.
Although Kate coordinated her look with a matching blue bag, blue fascinator, and nude pumps, there was a surprising dash of red in the mix. The 41-year-old sported a bold ruby red nail polish on her fingers, shocking longtime fans and followers who know this isn't Kate's typical polish color.
The royals have a strict dress code they need to follow at all times.
According to rumors (and plenty of visual evidence to support those rumors), the women in the royal family are prohibited from wearing anything but the lightest nude or pink colors on their fingers and toes while they're working in their official job capacity. That means Kate's red manicure is a royal no-no.
There may be new rules in place now that King Charles is in charge.
Kate has been known to break the occasional rule during her time as a working royal — for instance, she's been spotted sporting wedge shoes, a notorious pet peeve of the late Queen Elizabeth's — but it seems more likely that Charles has decided to relax some of his mother's rules. A change in the family dress code would also explain another change that royal watchers noticed on Easter: Queen Camilla's dress color.

Camilla was also sporting a blue outfit on Easter.
In Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's controversial 2022 Netflix docuseries, Meghan explained that family members are prohibited from wearing the same color as Queen Elizabeth during events. Additionally, she claimed that royals also are supposed to avoid wearing the same shade as other senior royals.
"To my understanding, you can't ever wear the same color as Her Majesty if there’s a group event but then you also shouldn't be wearing the same color as one of the other more senior members of the family," Meghan shared.
Based on Sunday's showing of all blue, it would seem that those old rules have fallen by the wayside under Charles' regime — and we have to admit we're kind of excited to see what else might happen with more relaxed royal protocol.
