Anyone who’s ever seen the Kardashians’ reality shows knows that Kris Jenner has never been shy when it comes to meddling in her daughters’ personal lives, and apparently, that’s been true since before the family was famous. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night, Kim Kardashian said that Kris once tricked her into going on a blind date by telling her it was a job interview … and yes, it was just as embarrassing for her as it sounds.
The story that Kim told Jimmy on the show goes way back — we’re talking before Keeping Up With the Kardashians was ever on air. At the time, the family wasn’t well known, Kim was single, and she was hungry to get her career started … and apparently, Kris (the mastermind that she is) used that to her advantage when she decided to set Kim up with a “TV executive.”
“She told me it was a job interview, but she told him it was a date,” Kim said. “And so I pull up and I go and I’m talking about what I want to do and I had a résumé on me.”
Kim said that her mom probably didn’t think she’d “be so prepared to bring a résumé,” but that just goes to show that Kris clearly underestimated her daughter’s ambition. Fortunately, the date didn’t go too long before Kim figured out what happened.
“Like five minutes in, I realized what was up,” she said, admitting that she was able to play it off by putting her résumé in her purse. And somehow, her date was none the wiser — at least, in the moment.
“I don’t think he ever knew until like years and years later,” Kim said.
Kris, who was also on the show, attempted to defend herself by admitting she knew the date wasn’t going to work out with the “Emmy-award winning” exec before it even happened.
“I’m not going to say his name, but he said, ‘Would it help if I brought my Emmy with me?’” Kris said, adding, “He was kidding. But I thought, this is never going to work.”
Kim replied, “So you also wanted to set me up with someone that thought an Emmy was what was going to seal the deal? Hmm.”
In the end, it obviously didn’t work out — for a romantic relationship or for the job Kim thought she was interviewing for. The good news? Clearly, she found her career path, so that’s what really matters, right? Besides, this is a really funny story, so maybe it was all worth it.
