The 34-year-old rapper, known as MGK, revealed that his daughter played a big role in him making the decision to become sober. He shared details of the conversation he had with his daughter.

"It started with my daughter saying, 'Dad, you know I can tell when you're high?' It broke my heart," MGK explained. "It was the ultimate let down." He also shared that Casie was only 11 or 12 at the time this conversation happened.

He realized he needed to get sober to break the generational curse of alcoholism in his family.

"It took me a while afterward, because obviously drugs have a vice grip on you," he continued. "That was step one for me. As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad would have been, I have to break this generational curse for my kid."

Machine Gun Kelly has been sober for one year.

Earlier this month, the rapper celebrated being one year sober during an appearance on Bunnie Xo's Dumb Blonde podcast. "I don't drink anymore. I haven't drank since last August. That was my first time I ever went to rehab," he shared.

He had substance abuse issues as well.

MGK went on to reveal that he'd abused alcohol, marijuana, and prescription pills such as hydrocodone, Percocet, and Vyvanse. He said that Megan Fox "has for sure been extremely helpful in dealing with the kind of psychological withdrawals that come with getting off drugs.”

He added, “I continue to embrace that this journey is gonna be hard for me, but I accept it and forgive myself."
