What to Know
Princess Diana never got to meet her grandchildren, but they are still keeping her memory alive anyway. This week, Prince George joined dad Prince William to help out those in need during the holiday season at a charity that was dear to Diana’s heart during her life.
Knowing how important helping her community was to her, it seems extra special that William and George found a way to remember his late mother that she would have been truly proud of.
George and William were hard at work at The Passage.
The father and son recently spent a day at The Passage helping prepare Christmas lunch for the homeless. While William, a patron of the charity, regularly volunteers there, this was the first year he brought 12-year-old George along for the adventure.
“It was an honour to welcome Prince George to The Passage for the first time, and as always, a pleasure to see our Royal Patron The Prince of Wales,” the organization commented on the royals’ Instagram post about their visit. “Thank you for your help!”
The royals also looked back on Diana’s time working with the organization.
The Passage is particularly special to William because he used to visit to help out with his own mom right around George’s age. In fact, People reported that he was 11, just one year younger than his own son, the first time he volunteered at the charity.
George was also able to sign the visitors’ book on the same page that Diana and William did during their visit on December 14, 1993 — almost exactly 32 years later to the day. This must have been so special for them both.
It was “important” to William to introduce George to The Passage.
“It was important to the Prince of Wales to share with Prince George the work of The Passage and to spend time volunteering alongside the team,” a spokesperson for William told People. “They both greatly enjoyed meeting staff, volunteers and service users as well as learning more about the charity’s work. The dedication shown not only by The Passage but by organizations across the homelessness sector, at Christmas and throughout the year, is invaluable.”
It’s so sweet to see that William is sharing his mother’s legacy with his own children this way. Soon enough, Charlotte and Louis will be old enough to join in, too.
