Rumer Willis Posts Crying ‘Single Mom’ Video & Immediately Gets Roasted

Two years after Rumer Willis welcomed her first child, daughter Louetta, 2, with ex-boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas, she’s now in the thick of being a single mom, and she’s not afraid to admit that it’s not a job for the weak.

But after the 37-year-old daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore shared her candid thoughts about her struggle — including plenty of tears — in a video on Instagram, instead of being moved by her honesty, her fellow single moms out there are actually pretty annoyed she has the nerve to complain in the first place.

Rumer admitted she “just had a good cry” in the video.

In a since-expired post that Rumer shared on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, she can be seen wiping away her tears while taking a walk outside.

“Just had a good cry in the woods… some days being a single mom is hard,” she wrote over the video, via People. “She is not hard (ever) but some days doing everything alone can be.”

Rumer added, “Wow, and I just realized I have food in my teeth… really winning today.”

Fellow single moms had very little sympathy to give her.

In the comments of People‘s story about Rumer’s post, you won’t find very many people who are willing to indulge in her emotional moment.

“Boohoo. I was a single parent, my ex never paid child support and I had to take my son away from him finally cuz he was showing him how to drink alcohol at 2 years old,” one single mom wrote. ‘So don’t cry to me about being a single parent. There are more of us than not.”

For others, the lack of sympathy was tied to the fact that Rumer comes from a world of money and privilege, while so many other single parents do not.

“Imagine how hard it would be to be a single parent, broke or struggling financially, with a kid who isn’t like yours in that they ‘are never hard ever’ or with a kid with significant health challenges,” another commenter wrote. “Then go cry in the woods. Not sure if she’s trying to be relatable but she’s not, she’s privileged. I’m not even a parent so I can only imagine how laughable this is to the true single parents out there without money or support systems.”

She and Derek broke up over a year ago.

In August 2024, Rumer confirmed that she and Derek had gone their separate ways. At the time, Lou was 16 months old.

She shared the news in an Instagram Q&A after one of her followers asked her if they were still together. “Nope I am single momming it and co-parenting,” she wrote, via People.

Being a single mom can be really tough — and a big life adjustment if you always thought you’d be raising your child in a two-parent household. At the same time, it seems like Rumer has access to a lot more money and help than most single moms do, so it makes sense why her message is rubbing a lot of people the wrong way.
