Rumer Willis knows that other people might think it’s “weird” that she and her sisters take baths together, but that’s how they grew up. During a Tuesday, April 1 appearance on the What in the Winkler podcast, Rumer, 36, opened up about some unconventional habits that her family embraces. Rumer, who is Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ eldest daughter, said these habits also influence the way she parents her own daughter.
She still shares a bed with her mom.
At age 36, Rumer will still sleep in bed with her mom, Demi Moore, 62. She hopes that her daughter will do the same when she gets older, she explained on the podcast. Rumer’s daughter, Louetta, is almost 2 years old. Currently, Rumer co-sleeps with Louetta.
“Honestly, I hope Lou will, like, still sleep in bed with me when she’s my age,” she said, adding that she still sleeps in bed with her mother and doesn’t “think it’s weird.”
During the same conversation, Rumer said she and her sisters take baths together.
Rumer and her sisters Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 31, are clearly close. The sisters regularly celebrate one another on social media. On Tallulah’s birthday this year, Rumer shared a heartfelt Instagram post. “You are my best friend and my greatest teacher, my favorite person to send unhinged memes to, and my number-one FaceTime call, multiple times a day (whether you like it or not),” Rumer wrote to Tallulah. “I am truly, deeply, ridiculously obsessed with you.”
“I love you so much,” Tallulah commented on the post. “I am so grateful to be loved by you.”
During her recent podcast appearance, Rumer shed more light on her close relationship with her sisters. She said that they “all still take baths together.” She acknowledged that some people might think it’s strange, but for her, it feels normal.
“That’s just the kind of house that I grew up in,” she said. “People might think that that’s crazy and weird, but I don’t.”
Reactions were mixed.
While some people labeled the details that Rumer shared about her family as “weird” or “creepy,” many others defended her. Several naysayers insisted that people didn’t need to know this information about Rumer’s family. “This is material for your diary, Rumer,” one critic wrote.
But others said there’s “nothing weird about this.” One person pointed out that “in some cultures this is not unusual.”
“Here in Scandinavia, we would not consider this weird or sexualized,” another fan wrote. “I think it’s sweet they have such a close relationship. Good for them.”
A fourth person who didn’t see a problem with it added, “I think it’s great they still have that bond as siblings.”
Some people wanted more information.
According to some fans, the habits Rumer mentioned might be “weird” — but it’s hard to tell based on the information she provided. “Is ‘baths together’ them both in the same tub with no clothes trying to clean themselves like a regular bath or is ‘baths together’ them filling up a rich person sized tub and both being in it while wearing something, drinking wine and talking s— about people they don’t like?” one person questioned.
They said that, depending on the context, an adult sharing a bed with their mom could also be quite normal. It could “just be that sometimes she has a bad night and needs her mom,” they wrote, adding that it could also be “a weird out of touch celebrity thing.”
A second fan emphasized that it depends on how you look at it. “Replace ‘bathing’ with ‘in a hot tub’ and it is pretty normal,” they wrote.
