There's nothing like heartbreak to help inspire art, a fact Shakira learned after calling it quits on her 11-year marriage to former pro soccer player Gerard Piqué. The pop star has used her songwriting skills and mega platform to massively shade her ex-husband, whom she separated from in June 2022. Her new single, dubbed "Shakira Bzrp Music Sessions 53," has become an instant success — even if it does come with quite a bit of controversy.
The new song goes hard on Shakira's ex and his new girlfriend.
Shakira uploaded the Spanish ballad on YouTube on January 11, and it's since racked up more than 134 million views. The catchy track features some harsh lines including, "I'm worth two 22s. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded a Rolex for a Casio."
Shakira appears to take aim at both her ex and his new flame, Clara Chia Marti.
According to the Daily Mail, Gerard and the 23-year-old student got together a bit before Shakira and Gerard's 2022 split, which means that Gerard had been cheating on his wife before their separation. And that obviously stings for Shakira.
Rumor has it that Shakira has been using the song to torture her former mother-in-law.
Back when things were still good between the former couple, who have two children together, Gerard's mother moved in next door to them. Now, neighbors say Shakira has been "blasting the diss song at full volume" in the hopes that her mother-in-law will hear all about how her son broke up her once-happy family.
Shakira is also showing a flair for the dramatic with her antics.
She recently placed a massive witch statue on the balcony of her Barcelona house, where it can be seen from Gerard's mother's home. It's clear that Shakira is still feeling a lot of emotions about her split from Gerard, which reportedly happened after she told This Morning that she returned home from her tour to find someone had eaten all of the strawberry jam from her fridge, a food item that her husband apparently never eats. The discovery led to her uncovering Gerard's infidelity.
Not everyone is happy with Shakira's decision to publicly shame her husband.
Some people think Shakira needs to let the whole thing go to avoid looking like a petty divorcée — but her ex isn't one of them. Apparently, in an ironic twist, Gerard is now profiting from the song, having signed a new sponsorship deal with Casio.
While this story has taken some wild turns, we don't think we've heard the end of it yet.
