Critics Accuse ‘Sister Wives’ Stars Kody & Robyn Brown of Turning Garrison’s Burial Into a ‘Family Vacation’

Now that Sister Wives is sharing footage that was filmed around the time that Janelle Brown’s son, Garrison, died by suicide in 2024, the last couple of episodes have been tough to watch. Last week, viewers saw the family mourn the loss as they each found out what had happened to their beloved son and brother, and this time around, the TLC cameras followed Kody and Robyn as they traveled to Wyoming with Garrison’s ashes, where the family planned to bury them.

There’s just one problem, though: Fans aren’t impressed with the way Kody and Robyn appeared to turn what should have been a somber occasion into something that appeared to resemble a fun family vacation.

Kody and Robyn roadtripped from Flagstaff to Cody, Wyoming, with their daughters.

During the trip, Kody, Robyn, and their kids went sightseeing around the area that Kody lived in before marrying Robyn. They were shown going out to dinner and out for ice cream, and they even rode in a stagecoach to get the real “Wild West” vibes of the place.

And as The Ashley’s Reality Roundup pointed out, fans weren’t happy that he seemed to be having fun during an occasion meant to be serious, and they didn’t hold back when it came to sharing those feelings online. In fact, many said they thought Kody’s behavior was downright “disrespectful.”

Critics aren’t impressed with the way Kody and Robyn behaved during the journey.

Many people spoke out on X about how inappropriate they found Kody and Robyn’s behavior, while others shared their thoughts on Reddit.

“I feel like Kody is trying to push down any feelings he’s having, but Robyn and the kids seem like they’re there out of obligation and decided to make a mini vacation out of it,” one commenter wrote.

“His narcissism is on full display. So disgusting all of them,” wrote another person. “You’re there to bury your son not to have a fun vacation.”

The couple did become emotional at times.

Both Robyn and Kody got a bit choked up at different times in the episodes, especially while addressing Garrison’s death in their confessional interviews.

“We’re moving through our grief because you need that time of mourning, and we’re doing mourning things to respect and love the dead,” he said. “To mourn, and to own that pain. And we’re doing happy things so that we are moving on from mourning. So, we have faith in the hereafter and in our own futures.”

Meanwhile, Janelle and her daughter Savanah visited a new memorial in honor of Garrison.

Elsewhere in the episode, Janelle and Savanah visited High Country Humane in Flagstaff to see a plaque that had been put up in honor of Garrison after donations flooded in after his death from those who knew just how much its mission (and his cats) meant to him.

“It’s such a funny thing,” Janelle said on the show. “He was in nursing school, and his class called and said, ‘Where can we donate?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know, the humane society.'”

The donations in Garrison’s honor ultimately totaled $25,000, and a room in the shelter has been dedicated to him.
