What to Know
President Donald Trump recently made it clear that he’s still thinking about whether he’s “heaven-bound.” For some reason, he brought the topic up after crashing a wedding at Mar-a-Lago.
According to a clip shared by conservative author and radio host Eric Metaxas, Trump seemingly got distracted after spotting Metaxas and made another comment about “getting into” heaven.
On social media, Eric, 62, explained that he was at his friend’s wedding when Trump, 79, “showed up” for some reason. In a clip he shared, Trump appeared to be talking to the newlyweds at the wedding. Pointing to Eric, the president said, “He’s gonna get me into heaven.”
Previously, Trump’s comments about heaven went viral.
On Air Force One in October, Trump told a reporter that he was “being a little cute” when he said ending wars might “help” him get into heaven. In reality, he said, nothing would help him at this point.
“I don’t think there’s anything going to get me in heaven,” Trump said at the time. “I think I’m not maybe heaven-bound … I’m not sure I’m going to be able to make heaven, but I’ve made life a lot better for a lot of people.”
Not long after he made these comments, his son Eric Trump asserted that his father will definitely go to heaven.
At the recent Mar-a-Lago wedding, Metaxas said he wanted to talk to Trump about the subject, but it wasn’t the right time.
“Last night, at my friend Mike Wilkerson’s wedding at Mar-a-Lago, the President showed up,” Metaxas wrote on social media. “As he walked in, he pointed right at me and joked, ‘This is the guy who’s going to get me to heaven…”
Metaxas said he “laughed” at what Trump said, then told him, “I’d really like to talk to you about that… but another time..” He added, “Then I reminded him, ‘Don’t forget—you’re America’s Supercentennial President.’ Truthfully, I would love to have that conversation with him one day. But this wasn’t the place.”
Reacting to the post on Instagram, one person wrote, “Trump seems to bring up getting into Heaven a lot lately. Hopefully that’s a sign that he’s thinking about it more.”
Several others said they hope Metaxas truly does have the chance to have this conversation with Trump.
“That is so special Eric,” someone else commented. “You’re his spiritual leader. Guide our President.”
A third person on Facebook added, “He really needs someone to help him understand what is required for salvation,” while another person said they hope that Metaxas can “set [Trump] straight.”
