A couple of weeks after Whitney Purvis shared the tragic news of her teenage son’s death, a new report suggests that the 16 and Pregnant star missed his funeral. On June 2, the 33-year-old mom announced that her 16-year-old son, Weston Gosa Jr., had died unexpectedly. According to a new report from TMZ, Whitney tried to attend her son’s funeral but was turned away after arriving too late.
Whitney said she arrived at the funeral home at 4 p.m.
Per TMZ, an insider said Whitney was “devastated” after being turned away from her son’s funeral service. Whitney’s ex and the father of her children, Weston Gosa Sr., allegedly told her that the funeral would begin at 4 p.m. However, when she arrived at the funeral home, she was reportedly turned away because the service had started at 2 p.m. To make it even worse, she allegedly wasn’t even on the guest list.
The source said no one from Whitney’s side of the family was able to attend the funeral.
However, Whitney’s ex said she arrived even later than that.
Weston Gosa Sr. has disputed Whitney’s claims, TMZ reported. He said that he invited Whitney to the funeral and she was definitely on the guest list. Her other family members were also in attendance, according to him. Additionally, while the funeral service was set to begin at 4 p.m., the viewing started at 2 p.m. — and Whitney allegedly arrived after 4:15 p.m., when the service had already started.
Regardless of the exact reason why the grieving mom was turned away from her son’s funeral, it was obviously very hard on her. Weston Sr. told TMZ that Whitney texted him later that day calling him “evil.”
Whitney and Weston Sr. were seemingly not on great terms at the time of their son’s death.
During an interview with People, Whitney admitted that when Weston Sr. called her on the day of their son’s death, she didn’t answer at first. Of course, she didn’t know why Weston Sr. was calling, and they had been arguing prior to the call.
But once Weston Sr. sent a “911” text, Whitney knew she had to speak to him. “When I answered the phone, I could hear him crying before he spoke, and I knew it was going to be bad, and he told me, and I was just in shock,” she told People.
She added that she “didn’t want it to be real” and “didn’t understand what happened.”
She posted about her late son on June 3.
In a post shared on Instagram, Whitney wrote, “I will always cherish our memories together, the songs you use to love, your laugh, the phases you would go through, the little dolphin noise you use to do when you were younger, your smile, your jokes, the first day of school, playing with you, your first time swimming, making crafts, how you would dance in your crib to the law and order svu theme song, being a great big brother, the first time I held you and the last hug I gave you.”
On June 5, she shared a video from Weston Jr.’s first birthday. “I remember it like it was yesterday,” she captioned the post. “He ate so much cake he needed a spoon and fork. It was SpongeBob themed and this was his smash cake.”
