What’s Fisting? And Will It Ruin My Lady Parts?

Extreme sex! This week, an adventurous mom had a question about fisting — the practice of gently, carefully inserting a whole hand into your vagina. Here's her question:

Does your vagina go back to normal after fisting, or does it become larger than before?

This was the perfect question for Jamye Waxman, author of Getting Off: A Woman's Guide to Masturbation ($11 at Amazon) and my go-to girl woman for triple-X sex questions.

Jamye Waxman says: "Yes, your vagina goes back to normal after fisting. After all, it's capable of expanding to push out a human life! Still, if you're nervous about stretching, keep doing those Kegel exercises. Those are the exercises that keep your pelvic floor muscles strong and, as a bonus, make your orgasms even better. To find your pelvic floor muscles, stop the flow of urine when you pee, then start it back up again. Once you've got the hang of it, you can do that exercise anywhere and anytime. Keep it up, and you should be just fine after a good fisting!"

Jamye's right: As moms, we know that we can return our lady parts to pre-baby states by Kegeling. Once you've done the pee trick, as directed by Jamye, you can do more sophisticated versions, like the "elevator Kegel" described on the Mayo Clinic's website. I even downloaded the Kegeltopia iPhone app to help me do them better! Kegel benefits go way beyond better orgasms. You'll also keep yourself in better shape for your older years and lower the chance of accidental pee-squirts when you sneeze (hate those!).

Of course, the idea of fisting might not be familiar to many. And it's not the kind of thing you want to Google if anyone might be looking at your cache. The idea is that if a woman is extremely, extremely aroused, her vagina will be flexible enough for someone else to make a duck-shape with their hand and slowly, carefully insert the whole thing up there. It's not something you can do hard and fast; this absolutely must be done in a careful, trusting environment. And it's not for everyone. But if it's for you, there are great starter directions on this site. It ain't for everyone!
