The go-to, classic method for creating a killer pumpkin for Halloween is, of course, carving it. But just thinking about the process of doing that — and the mess and the clean-up and the skill you feel like you have to have to actually make that carved pumpkin look cool — is more intimidating than a horror movie! Especially when you're thinking about what's realistic, easy, and fun to do with the kids.
Thankfully, there are tons of no-carve pumpkin decorating ideas that will save you from knife-wielding strife! Check 'em out …
- Glitter! Okay, can be messy, sure, but something about covering a pumpkin in glitter just screams enchanting, doesn't it?
- Bling! May be tedious, but bedazzling that pumpkin will also make for a seriously sparkly end result! And now, for some reason, I want to sing "Bibbity Boppity Boo" …
- Colored tape. Make various patterns or plaid-ify your pumpkins so they look like they came straight out of a Ralph Lauren catalogue!
- Thumbtacks. Good one to try if you don't have rhinestones around!
- Chalkboard paint. Perfect for directing visitors here or there with fun messages, showing your teacher pride, and creating a fun word search!
- Black cat pumpkin. Chalkboard paint also comes in handy for turning a pumpkin into a black cat. All you need is some black construction paper for ears. Cute!
- The drawn-on jack-o'-lantern grin! Using black tissue paper and a dry erase marker, you can make a realistic-looking jack-o'-lantern lickity split!
- Buttons! So cute!
- Mummify. Vampires and zombies are all the rage these days, but I think the mummy deserves a little more air time, don't you?
- Lace it up. Something about this sexy pumpkin decor screams Fifty Shades of Grey to me …
