This Woman’s Sunburn Hack Is the Save Everyone Needs This Summer

There are many things to love about summertime, but getting a sunburn is not one of them. That's why there are many suggested products for curing an especially torturous sunburn. Unfortunately, those can be pricey and we may not always have them on hand when we need them. However, one Facebook user has shared her genius hack for getting rid of her sunburns and the internet is amazed.

Texas resident Cindi Allen-Stewart recently shared with her Facebook friends that she uses foamy shaving cream to treat her sunburns.

Cindi clarified that although it does need to be menthol foam (not gel), it does not have to be a specific brand. For her viral PSA, she just happened to have Gillette handy at the time.

"Usually, it takes just a couple days from start to finish, but this takes the heat out of it fast and makes it more comfortable on you," she wrote.

Cindi explained that you just put the shaving cream on the sunburn (don't rub it in), leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse it off in cool water.

"Finally, if you still need it, do it again the next day. Usually after that second treatment, the sunburn disappears," she shared on Facebook.

After a couple days, Cindi feels as good as new!

"The final picture was taken the third day after my sunburn," she wrote. "I slept great after the first treatment and when my shoulders still felt hot from the burn the next day, I had another coating of shaving cream on just my shoulders. I have not had any peeling either. I use this on my kids too!"

But, what do the pros think about this method?

According to Allure Magazine, dermatologists seem to agree that menthol will help cool the skin and calm irritation.

"Menthol has a cooling effect, which will help calm the discomfort of a sunburn," Howard Sobel, a New York City-based dermatologist told Allure. "If there is aloe in the shaving cream, it will work as an anti-inflammatory, and help relieve the irritation of burnt skin."

So you may want to give this method a try and see how it works for you. But, most importantly, don't forget your sunscreen!
