Whether coated in buttercream or gorgeous in ganache, wedding cakes are one of the hallmarks of a couple's big day. Sometimes they are the perfect melding of flavor and style. A wedding cake is supposed to be perfect, not merely edible. TikToker Taylor Hunt had planned a beautiful wedding, but it took a turn for the hilarious worse as soon as she saw her wedding cake.
“I got married last week and it was perfect it all went great, except for this one thing,” she recalled in a recent video. Taylor and her groom had picked a simple but elegant buttercream cake with “Amore” written in cursive on the side. It sounded like it would be gorgeous and exactly what they wanted. “The [bakers] were like ‘Yep, easy,’” she explained.
'What is that?!'
Like all weddings, theirs was busy and no one in the bridal party had thought about checking the cake once it was delivered … remember, it was “easy.”
“We didn’t have an official cake-cutting moment … thank God! Because this is the cake we got,” Taylor giggled before revealing what had been delivered.
The cake could easily have been made by a contestant on 'Nailed It!'
The cake was not frosted in buttercream, standing proudly for all to see. It was naked, and crooked. In place of "amore" scrolled across the side, a chipped chocolate disc proclaimed “My Darling.”
Luckily the newlyweds are blessed with a sense of humor. The bride shared that her mother had been in charge of the cake, and that she had called and texted the baker a picture of the confectionery that was delivered and was told it was “the right cake, they just missed some details.”
The comments section exploded with reactions that ran the gamut of emotions.
Even friends and family left shocked remarks.
“Omg Tay!!! Nooooo,” remarked one friend.
Another guest wrote: “Stop!!! How come I didn’t notice this?”
Taylor herself interjected that damage control “was swift.”
“That literally makes no sense whatsoever..in what realm is that even remotely close?” someone wrote. "They definitely didn’t finish it, that has to be what happened."
The overall consensus is that the cake must have been swapped with another.
“As a wedding cake baker, one of my worst nightmares is delivering a cake to the wrong wedding,” one commenter confessed.
The baker’s refusal to fully refund the cost of the cake had people calling for Taylor to name drop the bakery.
“I’d have demanded a refund and if they refused to give it, name and shame,” someone else wrote. "That’s ridiculous!"
Taylor handled everything unbelievably well.
Many commenters were amazed by her great attitude about the whole situation.
One user shared: “My jaw dropped. But thank you for being able to laugh it off and not let it ruin your day.”
“Thank God you have a sense of humour and this hasn’t ruined any of your real special moments at your wedding,” another person wrote.
Taylor and her husband may not have been able to eat cake, but they had a beautiful day, a great story to tell, and a life to look forward to together.
