Cocktails, like any other trend, change with the times.
Mode.com created a video with bartender Adam Delaney to show 100 years in cocktails, from the Manhattan of the 1910s to the Old Fashioned, made new again today by period TV shows like "Mad Men."
Let's see the evolution of inebriation.
1915 — Manhattan

The classic Manhattan includes two parts whiskey, one part sweet vermouth, a dash or two of bitters, a maraschino cherry, a slice of orange peel, and ice.
1925 — Champagne Cocktail

The champagne cocktail is made with Champagne, naturally, with a dash of bitters and a sugar cube stirred in, and garnished with a lemon slice.
1935 — Bloody Mary

1935 was the age of the Bloody Mary. Start with tomato juice and two ounces of vodka, and mix with Tabasco sauce, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, and a mix of celery salt/paprika/pepper. Garnish with a celery stalk and a lime/lemon wedge.
1945 — Mai Tai

The original Mai Tai is not meant to be pink! All you need is an ounce each of amber Martinique rum, dark Jamaican rum, and lime juice; half an ounce each of orgeat syrup and Cointreau; and mint to garnish.
1955 — Martini

In the 1950s came the Martini (stirred, not shaken). Mix two and a half ounces of gin with some dry vermouth and ice. Add a twist of lemon and pour the drink into its namesake glass with a few olives.
1965 — Whiskey Sour

The Whiskey Sour is one of the simplest cocktails to make: It's a combination of one part fresh lemon juice, one part simple syrup, two parts bourbon, and a maraschino cherry, a lemon wedge, or both.
1975 — Harvey Wallbanger

Harvey Wallbanger is not a "who," but a "what." Mix an ounce of vodka with four ounces of orange juice. Top the drink with half an ounce of Galliano liqueur. Easy.
1985 — B-52

Named for, yes, the '70s band of the same name, the B-52 cocktail is one part Kahlua, Baileys, and Grand Marnier layered in that order in a shot glass. Bottoms up!
1995 — Long Island Iced Tea

The Long Island Iced Tea is an explosion of different liquors. Vodka, gin, rum, tequila, and triple sec come together in a glass with lemon juice and Coke over ice. A slice of lemon finishes the drink off.
2005 — Cosmopolitan

Popularized by "Sex and the City" character Carrie Bradshaw, the Cosmo is a riff on the kamikaze and consists of citrus vodka, Cointreau, lime juice, and cranberry juice, served in a martini glass with a lime wedge.
2015 — Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned has become new again, thanks in part to period shows like "Mad Men." A slice of orange, maraschino cherry, sugar, and bitters are muddled with a splash of soda and mixed with two ounces of bourbon. Garnish with another slice of orange and a cherry and serve over ice.
