Here’s what men do to convincingly fake an orgasm

According to a 2010 study from the Journal of Sex Research, 25% of men surveyed confessed to having faked an orgasm at one point.

Wait — what!?

It's true: Women aren't the only ones capable of "faking it." But due to certain… um, *physiological* giveaways when it comes to the male orgasm, how exactly do they do it without getting caught red-handed? (Not literally, of course.)

To the internet!

1. Wear a condom

"To fake an orgasm successfully, it is imperative that you wear a condom," says the author (a woman, oddly enough) of an article on AskMen. "It can be done without one, but it’s much more complicated."

"If you have a condom on, people just take your word for it," said one Reddit user. The trick is to ditch the condom afterwards without the other person seeing it.

2. Make the right noises

According to one of the participants in the 2010 study, he was able to convince his partner that he had reached the big O through vocalizations.

“I just made some extra noises and told her how good it felt,” he said.

But the key is not to overdo it, especially if your partner already knows your "tell" and might be able to call bullshit on your poor acting.

Some Reddit users note that they'll also do some "jerking hip movements" and maybe use their PC muscles to make their dick "jump" at the end, for good measure.

3. DON'T make eye contact

Another thing the AskMen article suggests: Don't make eye contact with your partner during *the moment of truth* because "everyone makes a distinctive 'orgasm face' and this is hard to fake since you’ve likely never seen your own."

So that goes without saying, then, that you should probably avoid missionary position.

But why do men feel the need to fake it?

Now, I'm not condoning the "art" of faking an orgasm — for men or women — but there are a few reasons men give for why they'd want to do it, including:

  • Being too tired or too drunk to climax
  • Having sex when their partner wanted to, but they didn't
  • Trying to spare their partner's feelings

Basically, these are all common reasons that women sometimes fake orgasms themselves. But maybe if we stop putting the emphasis on the idea that in order for sex to be good it has to end in orgasm, we can all stop faking it, and just enjoy being intimate with our partners.
