Tati revealed what ‘the most expensive foundation in the world’ really looks like

If you know anything about Swiss skin-care brand La Prairie, you know it's one of the most expensive names out there, period. That especially goes for its small handful of makeup products.

Take its Skin Caviar Essence-In-Foundation, for example. It's a whopping $195, which is more money than us mere peasants are willing to spend on pretty much anything. It begs the age-old question: Is expensive makeup inherently better?

Tati Westbrook, as always, came through with the answer.

Westbrook got her hands on the $195 Skin Caviar, one of the most expensive foundations on the market.

She's one in a relatively small handful of vloggers who can even try this foundation, because its shade range is... not diverse.

The two shades Westbrook swatched here are the lightest and darkest shades of the seven-shade range.

"I wish all brands would be broader in what they bring out," she noted of the lack of deeper shades. "It kinda sucks, [but] it is what it is."

Westbrook did note this brand is Swiss — that isn't necessarily an excuse for excluding deep-skinned customers from certain products — but it was created for a European market, which is far less racially diverse than North American ones. That's the same reason Korean and French brands often have such terrible shade selections for deep skin.

The lack of shade choices wasn't the only thing Westbrook found questionable about Skin Caviar — she feared she might not get many uses out of the cushion packaging.

The product details state there's one fluid ounce of product in the compact, though, and that's standard for liquid foundations.

But after applying it with a beautyblender, she was very pleasantly surprised, despite having a slight headache from the product's strong fragrance.

"It doesn't even look, close-up, like I'm wearing foundation, but I am very evened out."

Did it pass the all-day wear test, though? Nah.

Even Westbrook's husband noted that at the end of they, the foundation looked like it was just sitting on top of her skin rather than settling into it.

"I personally would not recommend this. I would save your money. I would go with the Laneige</a>; I would go with a Dior or Wet N Wild for five bucks; it last so much longer, and it does not do this creasy, bunchy thing."
