The bathroom, the potty, the washroom, the loo. No matter how it’s referred to, it’s the most-visited room in all of our homes. Everyone has to go, literally. It may take on the identity of a library, salon and spa, or even a makeshift phone booth (just me?) based on how many people you live with and what you need to do in your space.
Whether it's cartoon tigers, owls, and princes singing about going right away or commercials full of colorful bears showing them “enjoying the go” or the smile they get from a clean … you know, bathroom time is as unique as the individual enjoying it. Some people, though, have taken hygiene individuality to a new level.
Everyone likes bathroom time their own way.
Some users go completely off the grid with a compostable toilet, others are more focused on sitting pretty with a squatty potty, and some thrones are so high-tech they have their own IP addresses. But one of the latest American trends is to eschew toilet paper all together.
Yes, you read that correctly. Some of your friends and neighbors have liberated themselves from the roll.
Channon Rose and her family have freed themselves from big paper.
The YouTube and TikTok content creator went viral in February for her video espousing the use of the “family cloth.” She kicks off her video titled "Things I no longer buy bathroom edition" by stating, “I no longer buy toilet paper.”
The Colorado mom admits some people may think it’s gross, but she goes on to explain that they use a bidet to get fully clean and dry off with reusable cloths.
Channon explains that toilet paper “gets crumbly and stuck.” The notion is gross to her, which she illustrates further into the video by emitting gagging noises.
They don’t wipe by cloth alone. It’s a two-step process.
They use a bidet for the actual cleaning, and they use the cloth for drying off.
“Water and cloth just cleans you way better,” Channon shares. She shows the cloth and explains that she makes them by cutting and serging the edges of washcloths together, adding that “it’s soft and comfortable.”
Channon also explains that she makes reusable tissues and menstrual pads as well.
People on TikTok are curious but also kind of skeeved out.
"At first I thought this was a joke but then you started making sense," one person commented.
"So what about for guests, do you supply them with toilet paper or do they use the reusable ones," someone asked.
Channon said they always have traditional TP on hand for guests.
"your kidding about the toilet paper right?" another person questioned.
"Nooope no ma'am," someone else commented.
But a lot of people actually like Channon's suggestions. "I started doing the same thing with toilet paper. Not only is it cleaner, but I save so much money," one commenter wrote.
