Nikita Dragun Isn’t Backing Down After The Blackface Drama

Last week, Nikita Dragun got dragged by Twitter after posting Instagram stories showing her using a filter that made her skin shades darker. To add insult to injury, she also had on a durag. The influencer, who's currently in Milan for Fashion Week, has finally responded, but let's just say, it's not an apology. She's standing behind the video, and saying that it's just not "that deep."

Check out her full response ahead.

Last week, Nikita Dragun came under fire for what many called blackface.

Donning a durag and trying a filter that made her skin shades darker, the Instagram stories created a frenzy on social media. "The excessive tanning … The durag … Wearing a braided wig … And so MANY other countless things she’s done, but yet REFUSES to address. This is why I can’t stand @NikitaDragun (aka thenikkawannabe)," someone tweeted about last week's story and some of her past decisions.

Well, if people were expecting an apology, there won't be one.

Instead, she only addressed the durag, explaining the function of the scarf that has long been a staple of the black community. "Durag/ head scarfs r used to protect your wig from flyaways, friction, and frizz," she said. "13 hr flight to Milan + 40 inch human hair lace wig  = please everyone go about ur day it's really not that deep <3"

She claims she was too shy to wear her bonnet.

After someone suggested a bonnet, she said she was too fearful to wear the more full-coverage hair protector. "Omg thank u," she responded to the fan. "I have a bonnet but i was too shy to be wearing it on the plane."

Of course, it's not being received too well.

Because let's face it, black people certainly don't need a history lesson in durags. The response seems to be a poor attempt at being aloof. "Nikita dragun tried to educate black people on what durags are used for," someone tweeted.

Some feel the "shy" excuse is a cop-out also.

"You were too shy … REALLY?!?!" someone asked. "Weren't too shy to do black face. Weren't too shy to wear faux locs. Weren't too shy to put that black man on a chain at the AMAs. And MOST DEF weren't too shy to tell us how to use what is made for us (durag)."

We must say, Dragun isn't one for the shy … usually.

But still, she's not budging.

"I don’t ummmm … cómo se dice… give a [redacted]," she tweeted.

Welp, looks like an apology or any acknowledgment of wrongdoing isn't coming.
