Parents Accused of Holding Teen Girl Captive & Beating Her in ‘House of Horrors’ Charged With Abuse

Two New Jersey parents are facing multiple charges in connection with severely abusing the woman’s daughter. Brenda Spencer and Branndon Mosley have been arrested and charged after Spencer’s daughter revealed the years of abuse she reportedly suffered at their hands. Details about the abuse inflicted on the girl were shocking. Their home was described as a “house of horrors” by prosecutors. If convicted of the charges, they face many years in jail.

According to a news release from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the alleged crimes of Spencer, 38, and Mosley, 41, came to light on May 10, 2025. Authorities responded to a report that a child had been kept in a South New Jersey home and abused for several years.

After the couple’s arrest, horrifying details emerged about the abuse, which allegedly began about 2018.

The daughter “was removed from school in the sixth grade at Spencer’s discretion and confined to her home,” the release shared. “She stated that shortly after this, she was forced to live in a dog crate for approximately one year and was let out periodically.”

The girl, who is now 18, said she was “later forced to live in a padlocked bathroom while being chained up,” per the release, but she was let out of the bathroom when family visited their home. “At other times, she was forced to live in a bare room with just a bucket to use instead of a toilet. She explained the bare room had an alarm system that would alert Spencer and Mosley if she tried to leave,” the release added.

The girl also alleged that she was sometimes beaten with a belt and Mosley sexually abused her.

Her abuse only stopped when she was finally able to escape the home on May 8, 2025, with the help of a neighbor. The abuse was reported after she shared her experience.

“Detectives searched the residence and found that the victim was subjected to living in squalid conditions alongside numerous dogs, chinchillas, and other animals,” the release shared. Authorities also “learned that a 13-year-old who also lived in the home was removed from school years earlier at Spencer’s discretion as well. Both girls were allegedly homeschooled.”

Spencer and Mosley were arrested on May 11. The many charges against them include kidnapping, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. Mosley also faces additional charges, including aggravated sexual assault.

If convicted, Mosley could be sentenced to life in prison, NJ.com reported. Spencer could be sentenced up to 30 years behind bars. After they were indicted by a grand jury, their attorneys entered a not guilty plea when they appeared in court September 8.

If they take plea deals, however, those years could change. Mosley would only face 50 years in jail, Assistant Prosecutor Rachael Minardi told the court, NJ.com reported. Spencer would only receive 25 years, but her attorney said it’s too early to decide.

“I forgot it three seconds after I got told it,” Terrell Ratliff explained. “We’re not even there at this point in time.”

Spencer and Mosley are in jail pending the charges. Both of the daughters are “in safe locations.” No additional details were given.
