Man Waited Hours To Call 911 After ‘Accidentally’ Shooting Wife With Kids in House During Fight

A Colorado man is facing murder charges after admitting to killing his wife. David O’Grady initially claimed that he unintentionally shot his wife while he was clearing out his gun in their bedroom. He also claimed that he had attempted to administer CPR to his wife to no avail before he called for help. But as the investigation continued, the truth came out. Not only was the shooting intentional, but he also waited longer than he alleged before he called 911.

Shortly before 8 a.m. September 7, 2025, deputies were called to the home O’Grady shared with his wife, Taylor Last, and their two young children, 9 NEWS reported. According to the responding deputy, as he was on his way to the home, the 911 dispatcher told him O’Grady said he was clearing his gun the night before when it discharged, striking his wife in the chest. Court documents said O’Grady allegedly tried CPR for about an hour before calling 911.

When the deputy arrived, O’Grady said Last had been dead for hours. He led the deputy into the home, where she was found in the primary bedroom and was declared dead.

According to an affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, the couple’s two children, 4 and 6 years old, were in the home. O’Grady’s mother was also in the home. The deputy found Last “lying on her back on the ground, with her left arm on her chest,” the affidavit read.

“Taylor’s body was cold and stiff to the touch, indicating that Taylor had been dead for a while,” police claimed.

Court records as well as the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office indicated that David O’Grady had been arrested, a social media post notes. He was charged with one count each of murder in the first degree and domestic violence.

In his initial interview with police, O’Grady, 37, admitted that he and Last had been arguing about a party. As they continued arguing, “David said he knew the gun was loaded, fired a round into the bed, and then, as Taylor was coming into the room, aimed it in Taylor’s direction and pulled the trigger,” according to Law&Crime.

She was struck in the chest by the bullet, which killed her. The sound of the argument and shooting also woke up the couple’s daughters.

Police reported that the girls told them they heard “loud arguing,” before hearing a “bang” that made them “jump” out of bed. They also allegedly said they saw O’Grady “had thrown something” at Last, aLaw&Crime reported. She then fell “onto the bed with her hands up in the air.” The girls also allegedly said they saw “[b]roken colorful things” on the ground after the shooting. When authorities arrived at the home, “none” of these things was visible.

Taylor Last’s aunt created a GoFundMe account to help the family with the unexpected funeral costs. Any additional money will go to helping the family care for the girls and get them counseling. It’s raised more than $21,000 thus far.

“Our family experienced an unimaginable tragedy,” the fundraiser reads. “My niece, Taylor, was taken from us far too soon. She was a loving mother to her two beautiful little girls. The unthinkable happened — their father was responsible for her death, and he is now incarcerated. This leaves these sweet girls without both of their parents.”

In an update, the page shared that relatives hoped a victims’ advocate fund would help with funeral costs but “that is not the case.”

“Anybody in a similar situation knows this is a lot. Everyone can imagine our family was in no way prepared for this tragedy, and every day feels like another crushing blow.”
