An alleged drunk driver plowed into a single mom riding on an e-bike in Florida but didn’t stop to help her. Xavier Omar Rigby, 22, reportedly struck 38-year-old Kjersten Aileen-Hermance Strang just after 10 p.m. on September 20, 2025, in Gulfport. Rigby reportedly was speeding and hit Strang, who landed on the windshield of his car. Shockingly, Rigby just kept driving.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office shared details of the horrific accident in a news release. “Rigby continued driving for approximately eight blocks before Strang was dislodged from the vehicle. Rigby left the scene without calling 911 or waiting for police & fire rescue,” the release reads. “Strang was pronounced deceased on scene.”
Rigby did not stop his vehicle or call 911 for help, instead leaving the poor woman dead on the street like a piece of trash. When police caught up with him at a liquor store a short time later, he reportedly refused a field sobriety test, despite showing signs of impairment, the release noted.
Deputies arrested Rigby, who appeared in court on September 22. According to Fox 13, during that appearance, Judge Elizabeth Zuroweste brought up his criminal past.
“Here you are with a prior leaving the scene [of a crash with property damage] from 2022,” she said. “Then, in 2024, the state was generous enough to reduce your DUI to a reckless [driving charge]. For purposes of bond, it’s a DUI.”
In this latest case, Rigby faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death, vehicular homicide leaving the scene, and DUI manslaughter, Fox 13 reported. Zuroweste took no pity on a man who showed little regard for the law or the lives of others.
“Here we are now. We’ve now gone to a second DUI, but this time with extremely aggravating facts, where you’ve killed somebody, left the scene and dragged their body, and I don’t even need to go any further for how aggravating these set of facts are,” she said, per the news outlet.
The judge was happy to keep Rigby in jail.
“So, that being said, your bond is $750,000 on the DUI manslaughter. I’m finding that you’re a danger to the community and that nothing else can secure your decision-making and putting your life and everyone else’s life on the road, so you’re going to remain at no bond in the vehicular homicide and the leaving the scene of a crash involving death,” she said.
Sadly, Strang leaves behind a son, whom she loved dearly. Craig Parker created a GoFundMe account to aid her family with unexpected expenses. It’s raised more than $4,500 thus far.
“We are elated with the response thus far and hearts filled with gratitude. The mission is to relieve the Strang family any amount of burden possible thanks to each and every one of you!” Parker shared on the page. “Will post updates frequently on any news or progress through the challenging time.”
As for Rigby, he’s behind bars, hopefully thinking about the lives he ruined because he apparently didn’t care about anyone but himself.
