When attending your child’s kindergarten graduation, you might expect to see a few dozen little kids no taller than 4 feet in a slew of cute graduation caps and gowns as they walk across stage to accept their well-deserved diplomas. One thing that you really wouldn’t expect to witness at a graduation ceremony of any kind, really, is a full-out brawl. Such was the case at an Ohio elementary school where a fight broke out among parents over seating arrangements at the ceremony. Things quickly escalated to a point where police were called. One person was arrested while another had to be taken to the hospital.
Things took a violent turn at a kindergarten graduation ceremony in Toledo.
According to WTOL, on the morning of May 21, 2026, police were called to Queens Apostles School in Toledo after several people were involved in a heated dispute that turned physical.
The disagreement happened on the day of a scheduled kindergarten graduation ceremony. The dispute allegedly broke out over seating arrangements, per the news outlet.
A 26-year-old who was involved received a head injury and was taken to the hospital, according to WTOL. Police said a 28-year-old woman named Jessica Anderson was arrested at the school and taken to Lucas County Jail, where she faces a felonious assault charge.
The fight broke out while the children were rehearsing in another part of the school.
A parent named Craig Mays told WTVG that the children were downstairs rehearsing when parents started fighting over seats. Mays explained that another family began to grab seats and “kind of like make their own space,” which he didn’t have an issue with, but his child’s mother couldn’t see.
Mays explained that he tried to deescalate the situation, but a woman behind him wasn’t having it. “The girl behind me, she’s just talking just cussing talking crazy. Calling us weird and saying we need to mind our business,” Mays told WTVG. Police identified the woman from Mays’ account of the incident as Anderson, who is now facing charges.
According to an affidavit filed in Toledo Municipal Court obtained by WTOL, Anderson allegedly grabbed someone by the hair and struck her head against a chair, causing the victim to need stitches.
One parent is baffled to see something like this happen at a school event.

Mays told WTOL that the individual who had to be taken to the hospital for stitches was his daughter’s mother. “We had to go to the emergency room. She got staples in her head. She was bleeding. Her wrist is pretty messed up,” he said. “Both her knees are pretty bad. So yeah, it was a very bad day for my family.”
The father actually attended the Ohio school himself, from kindergarten through eighth grade. Mays “never in a million years” thought something like this could happen at a school event, per WTOL.
This unexpected physical altercation might also determine where he sends his daughter for school next year. “That’ll forever be a stain on everything … I probably won’t send my daughter back there next year. Just based on this situation,” he shared with WTOL.
Queens of Apostles School posted a statement to its Facebook page about the incident that read: “So grateful for our partnership with the Toledo Police Department! We appreciate your rapid response to the situation that some people brought to our school. All our students are safe, thankfully, and the last day of school continues as usual.”
According to WTVG, the graduation ceremony was canceled and will be rescheduled.
Our thoughts go out to the individuals and families involved in this unpredictable and violent incident. Hopefully, the kindergarten students graduating get their time to shine on a different day.
